Question Is anyone else suspicious about the legitamacy of reviews at overstock.com?

I ordered a set of three frames from them for $10 (listed at $75) and they had all great reviews on how great the quality was and how pleased they were with overstock. When they came to me two of the three were seperated at a seam and the qulaity was very mediocre. There is NO WAY they could sell for $75.

I can't imagine that no one else was disappointed with them, yet there were no negative reviews. I wrote a review and it said that the review would be put on in a week IF it was approved. So, basically they could be cutting out all the negative reviews they wish to and leaving us to think that everyone loves their products.

I looked through at other reviews on various things just to see if I could find negatives, and there weren't really any, but I saw lot with praise for overstock and how people were thinking of buying more of the item, etc - looked like propoganda to me. I wonder if these reviews are legit!

When I look at reviews at other sites, like Amazon, I've often seen negative reviews - even really bad ones saying not to buy the product.

I've lost faith with overstock and am not planning on buying from them again.

Please post your experiences there on this topic - I'm curious!

Sigh is an unknown quantity
I've always thought their reviews were either completely made up (most read like they were written by the same person), or they simply exclude any bad ratings. Maybe you can write a bad review and see if it gets put on the website. Of course I think the retail prices are really over the top. I've seen some of the exact same jewelry at ice.com for about $10.00 more than overstock. I've only ordered from them twice in the span of a year. I ordered a reconditioned coffee pot (which they compared the price to the retail of a brand new one) It wasn't anything special. I recently place an order for some pearl earrings. They were 19.99, so I figure like the coffee pot I'll get what I pay for. The earrings are most likely worth the 19.99, but they aren't worth anywhere near what they say retail is on them.

I looked at reviews on a carpet cleaner and they were all good. I knew it was a cheaper lower quality carpet cleaner and wondered how they had so many good reviews. Seems like someone might have something negative to say. Anyway, I went to some other sites for better reviews. I ended up buying at Overstock, but a better quality cleaner. (and by the way it works very nicely ;))

I NEVER go by their list prices. Always compare prices with other sites...

BTW, ds and I were looking at reviews on playstation games at Amazon. It was hilarious. Half the people said a game was great and the other half said it ******. They did go on to say why so that was helpful.;)

Actually I did get mine and I do like it. I used it for the first time today. Really for the price, you couldn't go wrong unless it downright stunk. And we needed one. I hope you end up liking yours too, especially since I posted that deal here.

I still will not trust their reviews anymore though. Actually I don't know that I'll shop there again - only if it's something that I need and am sure I'm getting a good deal. My advice is if you want to buy something there, go to Amazon to check for reviews on the product and compare prices.

Here's a link to reviews about overstock itself... very interesting.

I agree with you about their reviews. I've always taken them with a grain of salt. I usually don't buy anything there unless it's something specific that I'm looking for and I already know about the item. You're right, though, it does seem like the vacuum cleaner will be a winner.

It seems to me that its best to search for reviews on epinions and other sites and still take everything with a grain of salt, including the bad reviews. I have found that a good way to search for reviews is to do a general search for the product on yahoo! For instance, just a general search for "RCA DRC220N" which is a dvd player brings up reviews on epinions, audio review, Amazon.. etc.

Recently Amazon shut down their reviews for a few days because they found evidence that the manufacturers were writing reviews of their own products under disguised names. Supposedly they fixed this, but.. how could they ever be sure since anyone or their sister could write a review.

Anyone else besides me disgusted with the lack of integrity and honesty in the world today? I just came from reading the Bath and Body Works coupon thread at FW and I want to throw up.

Sorry to inject more negativity here, but I'm just amazed at what lengths people will go to.

Remember what lengths the companies themselves go to to sell it to us. I always remember "Joe Camel" cartoons on cigarettes, disguised as "camel bucks" purposely positioned on the bottom shelf at kids' eye level. The companies spend vast amounts of money on marketing research etc to basically tell us exagerations or falsehoods to get us to buy the product, not even mentioning the legal twists and turns on the coupons themselves.

Disgusted? Yes. Surprised? No. Somewhere along the line, parents forgot to teach their children honesty and integrity, so many "adults" (I use the term loosely) these days have no conscience. It's all about "me me me" and "greed greed greed".

Aren't "greed greed greed" and "me me me" the ideal states of being in a capitalist system?

I don't care what lengths companies go to sell it to us. Nothing justifies the consumer stooping to such a low level as to using HTML to alter a coupon to get something for nothing. I'm not responsible for what companies do. I AM responsible for what I do.
