Question Printed coupons, any problems w/stores?

Hi,

I've run into most of our stores lately that have signs up saying that they will not take coupons that are printed out. I asked why (not that I have any, no printer!) and they said it's "Due to Fraudulant Coupons". Ok, that's a good reason, and I was just wondering if anyone else had run into this YET.

wal mart in marion, iowa where I live has a list they are keeping of coupons that the companies are not following throuigh and reimbursing them, so they check your printed coupons compared to that list, although all of mine are directly from companies websites i also fear they will quit taking them

Re: Printed coupons, any problems w/stores?

Hi,

I'm from Connecticut and now we're seeing signs up in the stores that they are NOT taking printed coupons as from a printer. They'll take the ones you get in the mail but not the printed ones... geez, who'd counterfeit a coupon? ROFL Apparently, that's what's going on though.

Re: Printed coupons, any problems w/stores?

yeah i think people are making "copies" or I suppose creating there own and its hard for stores to tell I guess, but its cheaper for manufactorers to make you print them out, but if enough stores stop taking them I imagine they'd do mail coupons hopefully

Re: Printed coupons, any problems w/stores?

Seems like stores have been doing this for awhile, a few years ago I was going to a different forum site, and several times the subject would come up, and some people said they had stores that would take them and some said the stores by them didn't.

Just a hint for Wal Mart, it seems like it depends on the store you go to, it is up to the individual store manager. My store will take them as long as they scan, but if they don't scan we can't take them. It's worth checking out.

Re: Printed coupons, any problems w/stores?

Good idea, Lisa,

The stores around here (CT) including Walmart and the drug stores as well, have signs up so you will not even try using them - as they won't take them. How easy is it to counterfeit a printed coupon? Think about it. If you can photocopy and I don't have this feature, but my library will do it for a nickel, and since your printer will print out a coupon on regular printer paper, for 5 cents people are getting dollars off coupons just by photo-copying them. A little too easy, and the bar code will keep appearing on each photocopy, and that's why the stores aren't taking them.

Re: Printed coupons, any problems w/stores?

Here in Chambersburg, PA none of the stores here will accept printed coupons. I've heard various reasons why: over copied, fake (look for spelling errors etc, different copyers/printers contain a certain ink that will not scan, etc. As for Manufacturer printed coupons, whenever I visit their sites and they have a coupon that needs to be printed. I just Contact them, explain to them in an email etc that the stores in my area do not accept printed coupons, and they usually send you the coupon via snail mail. Or if you go to head of each company ie: Unilever, P&G etc and explain to them they will send you a book of coupons for all their products that are currently offering printable or snail mail coupons.

Hope this helps.

Re: Printed coupons, any problems w/stores?

Hi,
That's what I've been doing too, as there's NOBODY that takes printed coupons here in CT, so I've been getting them through the mail as well.

Re: Printed coupons, any problems w/stores?

Something I noticed, for all those that signed up for that latest Schick razor-it came with a 2 dollar coupon for the refills and it said on the coupon that they don't do printed coupons and they won't honor requests for payment from the store, so if anyone sees a printable coupon for this on the internet don't waste your ink printing it.

That's the reason we don't take the printables if they don't scan, is because of fakes. Heck, if people can create fake payroll checks they can probably fake printable coupons. It's probably the same concept as people creating fake 5 and 10 dollar bills, you aren't going to pay attention to something small, you'll worry about the larger stuff. It's a shame, because it ruins it for the honest people.

I used 4 at Target yesterday, they scanned and so they took them. 3 of them were for the oxi clean starter pack and the other was an online target coupon. I live in NC

Re: Printed coupons, any problems w/stores?

I don't know of any place around here that accepts them still. Some do accept them from specific websites (I assume that they have partnered with or something).

I never really thought about them actually counterfeiting coupons; I just thought that it was to prevent people from making multiple copies that are only suppose to get one. But, yeah, that wouldn't be hard at all to do.

Re: Printed coupons, any problems w/stores?

Our walmart takes printed coupons as long as they scan.
Yesterday, I was shopping Food World and the cashier wouldn't take my printer coupon because "We don't take computer coupons!"
That's funny, because the Food World website has a link to PYO coupons

LOL, they have a link to PYO coupons and they wouldn't take yours? That's hilarious! Well, probably not at the time it wasn't! Nobody around here takes them.....
