Last week I got 8 Sara Lee frozen pies for 50 cents each. So what did the dang market do? They put Mrs. Smiths on sale. Now I bought 8 more for absolutely nothing when I doubled the stupid coupons. OK, OK, I know it's ridiculous. My freezer is maxed out, and everytime I need to find something, all I see is pies, pies, and more pies. What would y'all do - would you have passed on the last 8 or what? Is pie an appropriate breakfast item, LOL? Wait it gets worse, I got another turkey. Yup, that makes 4. I think this borders on the pathological. <ma'm, step away from the turkey, put your hands where we can see them> __________________ [Only registered and activated users can see links. I say buy what ya can! You're lucky you can get free or close to free. If we had doubles or triples here I would be stocking my own little store right here at home! As far as the turkeys go, why should we eat turkey occasionally? We buy chicken every week, why not turkey? I have 2 in the freezer right now and we are going elsewhere for Thanksgiving! I'm making one of mine next week since we won't have any leftovers this year. ![]() __________________ Check out these [Only registered and activated users can see links. Give the extra pies and turkeys to a local food bank or maybe a local shelter that is serving Thanksgiving dinners to the homeless. I'm sure they'd love the donation! __________________ [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now]

Here are some responses: Tristessa - didn't buy the 4 turkeys. Got 'em free over the last couple weeks. Stores here had the usual deal - buy so many groceries, blah, blah, get a free turkey. For particulars, see my Coupon Raid II thread in this forum. Pipanella - ROFL. Trade you a pie, OK 2, for 1 each of the freezer cup flavors. Rootbeer - yum! Nice to know that someone else is as certifiable as I am. Maybe we can get group rates at the "Home for Manic Shoppers". Cata - couldn't give the turkeys a home. There's just no bloody room in the freezers. I do have my own little store here. When I need something - food, paper goods, OTC drugs, cleaning supplies, whatever, I just go shopping in the garage. Sniff, sniff, how come you get to go elsewhere for Thanksgiving? Wish I could send the bunch I gotta feed along with you! Sandyl - also see Coupon Raid II thread. All 4 turkeys went to the food bank we support regularly here. Couldn't give them any pies though. They don't have any more room in their freezer either! We get so many freebies, including stuff that we frankly can't use, that we donate all kinds of things to the charity. They put together kits, for example, for the homeless. So we give them lots of deodorants, toothpaste, toothbrushes, etc. that we get free. A lot of that stuff comes from FAR deals at places like Walgreens & Rite-Aid. In case I'm too comatose to say so later, have a very Happy Thanksgiving, y'all. Be safe. __________________ [Only registered and activated users can see links. Excessive??? Well I'm trying hard to build a great stock pile of non-perishables and I've been working at it a year. This past couple weeks I've gotten about 48 boxes of 100' Reynolds plastic wrap for just sales tax..and I'm overjoyed. Today at a family party I mentioned it and my brother says WHY ???????? I replied because I ony had that many coupons and free is the best price. What would you have said???? How to you reply to these people when they ask Why??? __________________ [Only registered and activated users can see links. Hey, great score, luckyme! Have you been banned from the store you bought the wrap at, or can you still go back? ROFL. As for the naysayers who don't get it, I usually say that I prefer to shop in my own "store" for products that I bought for free or near free, rather than have to run to the market and pay full price for something I need. I also remind them that we save at least $4,000-5,000 each year shopping the way we do. DH and I have stockpiled for years. We're still using ziplocks, for example, that we "bought" for free 5 or 6 years ago. Haven't paid for shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrushes, floss and umpteen other products in at least 10 years. If you haven't thought of it yet, you might barter your plastic wrap for other products you need. I'm a little jealous, BTW, 'cause I only bought 6 rolls of wrap and had to pay 19 cents each for them. One other thing: once you feel comfortable with your stockpile, consider donating some of your free goodies to a food bank and/or shelter. We get great satisfaction out of doing that. People are always making comments about our stockpile, but many of them are the first to ask to borrow something. Look at it this way: people who question you are probably paying full price for everything, and are subsidizing those of us who are on the, um, frugal side. Sounds like you're doing a great job; keep it up! __________________ [Only registered and activated users can see links. I hope I can go back to that strore LOL.. I did split the coupons up into different orders. 37 were in one day though on two seperate reciepts (15 and 22) and I left the store between receipts. You're right though, I think if I ever spent that many coupons at one time they might just ban me!! Once, summer before this, I did get a lecture from the manager from useing 20 coupons at once. So far 22 is the most coupons for a like item I ever used in one trip at that specific store. But twice this year I've asked Walgreens to order me items useing 48 coupons at once and they have been happy too. I seem to be getting braver all the time. __________________ [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now]

OOOO, Skittles and Starbursts. Tell ya what, folks, because I'm such a nice person, I'm gonna take some of them off your hands so you don't feel bad about the excess. Or I could trade you for some frozen pies. Now, now, no need to thank me. __________________ Check out these [Only registered and activated users can see links. Smart move, luckyme. I usually spread the, um, wealth between several stores as the managers already grumble that I'm hurting their "bottom line". You don't want to be too obvious. __________________ [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] |

What are they talking about? Hurting their bottom line............ Rubbish. My dad had a supermarket for years and it was my job to send in the coupons. The supermarket gets the face value of the coupon plus a handling fee in the form of a check. My dad always gave me the money from those checks if I would take care of sending those in. Of course, his was a small store, but still, they aren't losing money on those coupons. __________________ [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now]

I think their grumbling stems from the fact that they have to double the coupons. Guess that means they're chipping in so much moola per coupon. Now that's gotta hurt their bottom line. Other than that, I think they just don't like dealing with coupons, 'cause they grouse so much about them. Now about those Skittles, Kylee....... __________________ [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] |
