Question HELP needed from WINNERS! RE: Supplying Social Security Number..

I WON a prize from Child.com(a carseat activity center)and they sent me a form to be notarized, but later in the letter it stated that it did not have to be notarized since the value was under $5,000. BUT they still want my SSN which I DO NOT want to give them.

I KNOW this topic has been discussed here before and I do remember someone saying that instead of supplying the SSN just to say "upon request". BUT they have requested it...WHAT TO DO?

THANKS SO MUCH for your help!

OHHHHH...I just got this email from them:

You do not need a notary stamp, but we do need your social security
number
for identification purposes.
Sincerely,
The Editors

NOW I am really confused..."identification purposes"? DOES THAT MEAN that they report this to the IRS as income?

THANKS for your help here, all you DOD winners!!!

Yes, they probably need it to send you a 1099 for IRS purposes. My guess is that if you don't give it to them, they won't send your prize. I really think in this case, it is safe to give it to them.

Ttulipss has great potential

I would tend to agree that it is probably okay. It's not like they're some fly-by-night company.

Congrats on your win!
