What Are People Looking for in Website Hosting Service?

Hi there,

I'm doing some research and thought that dealofday.com's forum would be a great place to get some answers. I'm wondering what characteristics you look for in a web site hosting company? e.g. capabilities (blogs, photo albums, etc.), 24/7 toll free support, hard drive space, bandwidth, price, etc.? Any responses to this post will be more than welcome. Thank you for your time and responses!

Hi,

When I did websites, the most important things were:

Price, price and price!
24/7 support and the ability to keep up w/the sites updates - people have a hard time getting that lately from what I've heard.
Definitely hard drive space and bandwidth goes without saying.
Photo albums not so much, as you can have those on a yahoo group and it's free.
Different layouts and designs for individual sites.
Mailing lists.
Any other goodies you can add are easy and people like and appreciate them, guest books, feedback forms, things like that, and they're so easy to provide.

Don't forget reliability, no one wants to go to the trouble of launching a site, then find out that their customers or members can only access it half the time or less.

Got so caught up in the post, I totally forgot about moving it
I didn't even "think" of reliability (and that IS a big one), as when I had my site, my son hosted it for free, and I did all my own designs. Apparently, Dave really did a good job for me, as my site was never in over 3 years, down. Wish he still did that!!!! LOL

No problem, I have been here a lot longer than you and I still forget sometimes. LOL! Perfectly normal, you were more interested in providing good advice and that is a task that I will never fault any mod for doing.

If some of our old mods had taken that type of time for the little things, then a lot of our old members would still be here, instead of having given up in disgust and moved on to other sites.
