Angry Frito-Lay "Online Summer Cash" - anyone??

I try really hard to keep my negative comments to a minimum, but for crying out loud....Frito-Lay's "Online Summer Cash" promotion SUCKS!!!! BIG TIME!!!! We like to have chips around anyway, and since I can usually get them pretty cheap, we've been able to rack up $60.00 in their online cash promotion through the codes they have inside the bags (which give you various amounts of online cash....anywhere from $5.00 to $20.00). Turns out they only have six sites you can use the cash on (toyopia.com; sunglasshut.com; youcansave.com; tees.com; novica.com; and ebags.com). You're only allowed to use a maximum of $20.00 per site, unless you have enough online cash to spend $20.00 in each site...once you've done that, you can revisit any of the sites again. Sound dumb? It gets worse!!!

I had been eyeing a couple of different DVD's at toyopia.com and finally decided today to purchase one of them. Well, when you follow the Frito-Lay site's link to spend your cash, it takes you to a special "gallery" of products which are the only ones you can purchase at toyopia through this promotion!!! (And guess what isn't included....??) Well, at least they have some Groovy Girls dolls in their "gallery" that are only $10.00 each right? Nope! Those are "OUT OF STOCK". Turns out almost all of the sites you can spend on are like this, and one won't even credit the online cash when you check out!!! The rest of them won't let you into any category that has anything under $30.00, and most won't let you see anything under $50.00!!!

Now, to be fair, I'm still checking things out at Sunglass Hut, but again, I can only spend $20.00 there. Given that this is the weekend, I have to wait until tomorrow to call Frito-Lay, but you can bet they're going to get an earful from me about this! Never in my shopping life have I seen such an incredibly crappy promotion!!! DON'T GET SCAMMED BY THIS.....IT'S NOT WORTH THE AGGRAVATION!!!!

Whew!! Okay, I feel better now (sorta)....thanks for "listening"!!

Unhappy Frito Lay

I feel the same way, they could at least give you a free coupon instead of awarding you money for useless items. I have money sitting in there also.

I decided to spend my money at eBags. Nice handbags, actually, at good prices for leather. Anyway, everytime I tried to access the site through Summer Cash I got error messages.

Finally, I got through and placed my order. However, I got an apology email from eBags saying my item was no longer in stock and couldn't be backordered. So my credit card was not charged, but my online cash account was down 20$!

eBags was nice enough to honor the 20$ and even gave me discounted shipping. But I never heard from Frito-Lay with my concerns.

Erin

I totally understand!! I sent an email to Frito Lay through Planet Feedback and told them exactly what I thought of this promotion. I told them it was not the type of promo I would expect from their company. The item I wanted was @ Youcansave.com; HOWEVER, it was NOT one of the items available through the Frito Lay Cash link. Only a select few items to purchase w/ your FL cash. A friend put her item in her shopping cart and then put one of the qualifying items in and deleted it at checkout and got what she wanted, but they have corrected that flaw now. This totally sucks!!!

I agree for the most part. It was ridiculous to sucker people in like that and pull hte old switcheroo.

However, I did get a pretty good deal at ebags. My son needed a back pack for school and they had one set that was a backpack and one of the wheeled backpacks. It was $29.95 for the 2 of them, minus the $20 from frito-lay and shipping I got them both for $14.95 and they are veyr nice bags from Calpak. My son loves his backpack and I have a very nice new carry-on for when I travel. You can get a decent deal, you just really have to HUNT.

Ebags deal....

I tried to do that same deal with ebags, but it must have been another flaw, because it wouldn't even enter the page when I clicked on it....it would simply reload the same page I started from!! BTW, I am still planning on calling Frito-Lay, but we got very short notice that we could move into a three-bedroom for only 12 bux more a month!!! (The bad news is, WE'RE MOVING NEXT WEEKEND!!! Lord, help me!!!)

Oh and as if things weren't bad enough with this stupid promotion, now most of the lesser priced items on toyopia.com are gone....no more actual toys, no dvds, just a bunch of WAY overpriced video game garbage.... this deal just plain reeks!!!!

Thumbs up i agree!!

we actually didn't even know about the promotion until i got a bag and we got one of the $20 coupons so we went up to check it out....after about an hour i decided it wasn't even worth the aggravation! they could have done a much better promotion!

I agree this wasn't the greatest promotion ever made. The only way I think it would be worth anything is if you already had your eye on something at these websites (something actually in stock, and available to use with this promotion). I just spent my $20 at Novica on a necklace. I ended up paying $11.50, but was lucky enough to find an item with free shipping on it. Not that great of a deal, but I really just wanted to go ahead and spend the $20 credit so I wouldn't have to mess with this promotion again. Hubby and I drink the Tropican Twisters, so I thought, "what the heck." BTW, bwsmom, did you actually get a chance to talk to them yet?
