I don't know what happened, but earlier in the week, there was a $20 coupon promotional code for Eddie Bauer. I needed to get their size information (companies sizes run different from each other) so I could order some pants for my daughter, so I wasn't able to order right away. Today, I tried to order and a window popped up that said, "Due to technical difficulties, this promotional code cannot be used over the internet. Please call 1-800...." So I did and the customer service rep. said their promotional code had been stolen and put on the internet, so they had to cancel the code number. I asked her if she was still willing to honor the code and she said "Not without a catalogue ID number". I told her I didn't have a catalogue number and basically I was told I was out of luck!!! I don't know if DOD really did steal the number or what, but I think it's really sad on Eddie Bauer's part to risk losing customers over the sake of a promotional code. Whether or not we have a catalogue. kelsibree |

Eddie Bauer is a very reputable company with excellent customer service (as experienced by family members and personally). If they feel they have been victimized by a discount code being improperly distributed, in my opinion they have the unquestionable right to stop the use of that code. In EB's case, they seem to be honoring the orders placed while the code was working on their site (my order placed 11/8 is on its way) but have since disabled use of the code (according to OP's description). That is a more lenient treatment of the situation than many other companies would have provided -- witness the many posts about other companies canceling orders after the fact. Why is it that so many DoD posts question the right of a company to protect their business operations? I'm all for using a code, coupon, etc., if it works -- but if it wasn't sent to me personally and the company tells me that it wasn't meant for my use, then I can really find no honest basis for complaint. I know this is a hot topic at DoD; I think it's my first input on the subject. I felt that the EB situation was handled with a lot more grace and generosity than we have seen from other companies, and wanted to post in their defense. |

When a company sends you an offer for a discount one should not abuse it and place multiple orders getting items for free. It says one purchase only then one purchase it should be. It disgusts me to think that people are that greedy in our society. I would hate to think that this behavior could cost people their jobs in the economy we are in. Why would you even get a kick out of it? Why don't you just have someone walk into you house and take what ever they want. I know Eddie Bauer stands behind it customers and products! They have one of the best return policies I have ever seen along with some great clothes. Why would you want to destroy a company like this? |

I can only speak for myself but I saw the code on the "found a freebie" page. I used it with no trouble and didn't give it another thought that day. What I don't understand is if they give out one-time-use codes..how come many people can use them? That doesn't make any sense. A one-time use code should be just that. I rarely order from EB. They send me postcards with one-time-use codes and if I don't use them, I throw them away. I didn't know where the person who posted the code got it. I assumed it was a general freebie and I took advantage of it. I received my order yesterday. My credit card shows the $20 deduction so I am happy.

| The cashiers in their stores are snotty too
I had the actual coupon sent to me by EB and went to their store. I didn't see anything I wanted so I just purchased 2 pairs of leggings for $20. The cashier basically scolded me for using the coupon! He said the reason EB sends out these codes is to get people in the store and spend more money than the coupon. I told him the coupon states $15.00 off min. 15 purchase and I did go over the 15, but even if I kept to the minium of 15 if EB didn't want me to use the coupon then they need to raise their min purchase level. The nerve. I'll make sure I go in with every coupon now (I throw some out) and just get the minium until EB changes. I"ll give the stuff away if I don't need it.

| Never had a problem with EB!
I too go to the store with the coupons - dont like shopping on the puter - I like to be able to see the items I am buying. I never find anything I like SO I just stick to what the coupon amount is. Usually for the $15 coupon - I get 3 pairs of mens white socks for the boyfriend. This past $20 coupon - I was able to get a $34 sweatshirt AND a t-shirt and paid 98 cents. I was a happy camper! Everything was on sale and then had an additional % off. I have NEVER had a problem with them. Each month I get at least 2 coupons and the same person waits on me and always comments -- BACK FOR THE SOCKS! LOL Guess it depends on the individual that helps ya!

Worked for me. AmEx card reflected full price charge and then a $20 credit from EB. It's handy to sign up at your various credit card issuer's sites so that you can review charges almost in real time vs. waiting a month for the paper statement. Or, most CCs, you can phone the number on back of card or statement and have the last XX number of charges read back to you by automated system. |

I havent had a problem with Eddie Bauer... I got in on the 20/20 and when they shipped my item, they credited $20 on my MC. I did not get the free shipping but I did get a nice pair of childrens snow boots for $15. I will not buy anything with out a coupon/deal/discount. Period. If any company wants my business, they will send out coupon codes! I also find that I get better deals on the internet than in the store, and I don't have to fight the crowds Sometimes we just miss out on good deals, I missed out at BestBuy yesterday, they had $9 Leapfrog Leap pad systems ($39 was the cheapest I have found it so far) Don't you know Im kicking myself for not checking DOD soon enough!

I had problems with the item I wanted to buy on-line, so I called the #800 to order. I gave the girl my code, and she also said it was invalid. I tried another code from anothe site (also invalid) but she worked on her end until she found a valid code for $20 off and gave it to me. I think you just had rotten luck with the operator. I would call again and ask for a supervisor. Eddie Bauer has always been fair with me. |

I love EB. Never really shopped online til EB. I've gotten 3girls shirts + a pair of socks for $3.28 total. Men's sweaters for under $5 shipped. Their Cust Srvc is great. I've never had a problem calling in my order w/their online product numbers. All online prices were honored. Now I'm waiting for a pair of dress boots to go in their weekly sales. Kudos to EB! |
