After purchasing from Fingerhut through their mail order come ons many years ago, I said I'd never order from them again (the merchandise they sent was far inferior to the pictures they showed in the catalogue). But, for some strange reason, when they offered a Visions cookwear set for $12.xx shipped, I let my DD talk me into purchasing it for her friend's wedding. Anyway, it really didn't come as a big shock to me when I got a postcard from them nearly two months later saying that the cookwear was now out of stock & they had cancelled the order because they didn't expect any more in. I figured that it was just another bad experience with this company & now I'd write them off for good.
Imagine my surprise when the very next day a woman from Fingerhut calls to ask if I want some other thing added to my order! I didn't even wait to find out what she was selling - I told her she must be mistaken because I was sitting here with a post card telling me that my order had been cancelled & read the cancellation number to her. She looked it up in the computer and agreed that it was indeed cancelled, apologized for calling & said she would take my name off of their list.
Ok... along goes another week (and I've since gone out to purchase another wedding gift because the wedding was that weekend), and lo & behold... the cancelled Visions cookwear set shows up on my doorstep. So, I called them back & get this annoying spiel about how I would need to keep this set or pay for returned shipping.

Anyone who knows me knows that this didn't sit too well with me and I immediately got on the phone with my VISA company who told me that they would investigate.
While I was waiting to hear back from them, I got a notice from BizRate to not forget to "evaluate" my shopping experience with Fingerhut. Hmmm... I figured I had nothing to lose, so I went ahead, did the evaluation & then left a note blasting them for sending the cancelled order since I had to now pay for shipping - which would cost me nearly as much as the order itself.
Now to the good part - I got a response from one of their head customer service people. Not only did she apologize for the error, she agreed to remove the charge from my credit card, told me to keep the cookwear & sent me a $30 gift certificate (which arrived in the mail today). Yippee!! So, now I have another Christmas gift sitting in the closet and I can go buy something for myself.
Kudos to Fingerhut for making good on their mistake. I don't think I'd ever bother with their credit (the rates are just too high), but I'll probably go ahead & order from them again since I know they'll take care of it if they make another blunder.
