Angry eBay's Feedback Policy

I am furious that on eBay if a seller is not paid and they leave negative feedback for non-payment, that the supposed buyer can write whatever they wish. They can leave a negative for you, make up a total lie, etc. When you contact eBay about a false negative, they just tell you that you are on your own. Everyone is free to put whatever they want in your feedback. Once you have left someone feedback, however, you can not change it. Even if it is a false negative. Who wants to buy from a peron with a lot of negatives? I sure don't!

I too had some problems with feedback and think that ebay's policy on this sucks...I had some left for me for an item that I had NEVER bid on, never had the seller contact me about, and NEVER in a million years could find out what it was for and, when I looked at the "feedback I had left for others" tab, I found that I supposedly had left feedback on a porn item that I didn't win and couldn't bid on even if I wanted to (no CC on file), ebay refused to remove it even after I started getting sicko emails from porn sites.

However, you can now respond to feedback that other people have left for you...if you go into feedback forum and look for the link that takes you to something like "read and respond to feedback others have left about you"...you can reply to those stinkers that left the unjustified feedback. So, although you will have a negative, you may respond, and (most) sellers will be able to see that someone was just being a jerk.

But, (and here's my two cents again) I view feedback as just a subjective indicator and shouldn't be used for anything except telling people that you've shipped or received the item in question. There's too many people that abuse feedback, don't leave feedback at all, or won't leave negative feedback for fear of reprisals from an angry buyer/seller.

I agree !!

I agree... Ebay just won't take responsibility for cleaning up when it needs to be done. I recently changed my email addy and when I tried to update it, they told me I had to have 3 months of no activity before they can update it. Excuse me..what ?? They expect me to go three months with the upcoming holiday season !
Nope... So i just contact the sellers first.

And as far as feedback... I got a negative one on my file because I complained about a seller who held my money order for over 1 month before mailing me my item. He complained that I was hard to deal with and did not pay prompty. Well if the sale ended on 2-26, I contacted him within 24 hours, he responded 3 days later. I mailed the money order off the next day and he received it and confirmed the receipt by email 4 days after that. I didn't receive my item until 4-3 !! And I'm at fault for this... luckily I did respond to his remark with that breakdown..but geez.... I contacted Ebay, but because the item was worth under a certain dollar amount ( can't remember if it was $ 25 or $ 50 ) they don't get involved....nice...collect their fees and that's it...
