I work at Michaels, and BTW I give execellent customer service, maybe there's something in the water that makes people nasty where you live Anyway, it is a corporate, nation-wide policy that cashiers give "coupon exceptions" to anyone requesting the discount without the coupon in hand. We also accept Joanne's coupons using the same procedure. Customers are asked to sign a log form and provide their zip code for record keeping. Anyone denied a discount should scream bloody murder to corporate!!!!! That's just not the Michaels' way! Arn't? is that a word? Not where I live. but heck we is hics two PS, Walmart is skrewing its workforce and your neighbors, gentleman Sam is spinning in his grave!!!! Good morning! I currently work at Michael's. We treat everyone with the respect deserved and have not seen any event as mentioned previously. The coupon policy states that only one coupon can be used per customer per day. In the event a customer has 2 coupons with different percentages off, BOTH can be used. Competitors coupons are allowed except a percentage off the entire purchase, except printed on a receipt or except printed from the internet. If an item is on sale, the coupon CAN NOT be used unless the coupon includes sale items. An item on sale CAN NOT be adjusted to regular price in order to use the coupon. Coupon exception is NO LONGER allowed, therefore coupon needs to be on hand in order to honor it. |

| Re: Michaels Art & Crafts... is it really a coupon or not?
I currently work at Michaels, and I must admit that I try my best to provide the best customer service possible. However, customers can be extremely demanding, rude, and pushy when it comes to services requested. Every day I have to deal with someone that is rude and completely inappropriate. I get paid 8 bucks an hour to unload the truck, work cashier, and stock the floor. I have to do all of these things at the same time. Most Michaels employees are multitasking during their shift, that is why many customers have to wait for a cashier. It's not our fault, as we are being spread thin as it is. Then we have to deal with customers. The coupon states how and when it can be used. As a mere cashier, I cannot bend those rules. I would appreciate it if pushy customers would stop trying to bully me and my coworkers into doing something that will get us written up, such as giving unauthorized discounts. Also, just because we work at Michaels doesnt mean we know absolutely everything about crafting, it also doesnt mean we can read the customer's mind in trying to figure out what they are looking for when they dont even know what they are looking for. I am also tired of customers getting upset when I do not know which stores they can find cheshire cat print fabric, or 10 pound bags of glitter, or anything else they are looking for that Michaels does not carry. I'm tired of customers griping at me about how I personally can sell certain items for such an unreasonable price, or complaining about me not providing a certain service, or complaining about the location, the music, the size of the check out counters, the building temperature, the size of the bags, etc. Im tired of customers coming into the store and handing me a list asking if I can just go get their stuff while they wait in line. I'm not a personal shopper, I do not set the prices for the merchandise, I do not make the store policies, or select the music, or purposely not accept outdated or irrelevant coupons. I do my best at a job that I am overqualified for, and underpaid for, without breaks, sometimes without lunches, and many times without pay. I had to wait 2 months to get my first paycheck! So stop complaining about your coupons, and how the cashier "smirked" at you when you couldnt use your coupon, when for the most part, we dont even make enough money (when they pay us) to purchase any of the merchandise! This has to be one of the WORST jobs I have ever had. No one trains you, they just put you on the sales floor, on the register, or in the custom framing department, and expect you to figure out everything on your own. When you ask questions, they get irritated and act like you are stupid, then just continually ignore you while customers abuse you. Then, they change your schedule multiple times during the week (without contacting you) and then write you up for not adhering to the revised schedule. I have another job, and my store is CONSTANTLY scheduling me during the hours I am unavailable to work, or scheduling me so that I am an hour late for my next job. Not to mention the fact that Michaels consistently screws up my pay checks. If it isnt bad enough that I dont make very much money, its even worse that they are constantly not paying me for the time I have worked. If my schedule says I work until 9:30pm, but my manager makes me stay late until 10:00pm, I only get paid to work until 9:30pm. And then it takes two months calling HR and Payroll, argueing with them for my money, to be treated rudely, before I finally see the money I have worked for. Seriously, stop complaining about the coupons, stop making messes in the store, put your stuff away instead of leaving it everywhere on the sales floor, stop pushing for discounts and price overrides, and stop being so needy and grumpy. |
