| Last week I bought the Intel Wireless mouse, base and gamepad from CompUSA B&M. Their rebate coupon "center" didn't have the right coupon, so it took three employees and about 30 minutes to finally locate the coupon I needed. What I didn't notice was that they had missed a $10 "price break" on the gamepad -- I didn't see that I had been overcharged until I was home, working through the rebate process.
Rather than make a special (somewhat long) trip to get the $10 back, I waited until today when I was going in that direction. But instead of just giving me the $10 + tax back, they insisted on "returning" the units (on paper) and then "reselling" them to me. Fine, but that puts the receipts outside of the rebate date timeframe. They wouldn't do it any other way, finally wrote me a note on the manager's business card to send in with the rebate forms. We'll see! I will keep a close eye on that one and shove it down their throat if anything goes wrong!
While I'm waiting (and waiting, and waiting) for them to figure out THAT snafu, I look at the ad they have posted. Cool, a 50-pack of CD jewel cases free after rebate! I hunt up the product then go looking for the rebate coupon. Only problem is, the coupon says you have to buy a 50-spindle of CD-R along with the jewel cases in order to get the jewel case rebate. All the ad says is "cases free after rebate" with no mention of another purchase required.
So I go back through the management chain, pointing out that their posted ad is false and misleading. They try to tap-dance around it, but I just kept repeating "this is false advertising and there are Federal laws against it" until the manager finally gave me the jewel cases at no charge. Took a while, but I had the time, and I was already primed...
Guess there's a reason why I so seldom shop at CompUSA! |
