Spiegel has now changed their merc. cert...now you must spend 50.00 in order to receive the promotion..is there any out there without this string?

be careful of spiegel.

they are coming back and i mean STRONG -- 'charging' back is more like it.
i first got a letter saying they'd acccept no more orders from me ( have 2 grown kids living under roof, DH, myself, and grown married ones living away -- all placing orders from spiegels using various, many GC's received) infact, still have a stack of GC's, actual paper merchandise certificates, never used,
make a long story short, they've decided to charge me w/ all the GC's by their "recovery loss unit" no less.
i really dont know at this point what i kept and what i returned, so much was wrong sizes, etc-- Geezh.... But what they've charged me BACK, and looking around, no where NEAR have that amount (?) of merchandise
furthermore, i've not placed an order w/ them since Apr 2


sad thing, (good thing?) i have a twin sis, we've never ordered anything except what the other did also,

she never got a derogatory letter, she's not denied orders: she used AMEX yeah!! she's still placing orders, still using the merch.certificates
I used my Spiegel CC

and moral of the story, i called to cancel my Spiegel CC
....... TOO late, they'd already recharged $275 on it

my sis is still basking in the sun..... LOL

looks like they are targeting a "select few" and

their recovery unit is trying to recover their "screwups"
best way possible -- those that have a Spiegel CC they can charge back to--recover some losses --
those that used other CC's , well, walk free

TOO BAD... looks like Spiegel has some lawsuits coming....

I don't think they can legally do this!!

Can they charge back to other cc's? I don't think so, because my letter says for me to mail my payment in.
Yeah right!

I only rec'd 6 small orders. All the rest were cancelled.
I think this is just a scare tactic to recoup some of their money from all the coupons, also to stop future orders being abused.


The only thing I'm concerned about is if this will affect my credit rating.

my Spiegel CC is ACTUALLY CHARGED!! called, and am currently on hold calling again, the numbers they keep giving go around, and around and around, all..... back to the same beginning @#$!!!

I dont understand .. what exactly did they charge you for???? items that you purchased with g.c. that they are now cancelling the certificates and charging you for?

if thats the case .. can they do that ?? I ordered from them .. i have a cc that i use ALL the time, and just a couple of times used the codes offered here (actually 2) ... I have a statement that shows a zero balance...they can't go back and add charges !!! thats ridiculous ~

they say they are charging me back for the GC's i used, however, after talking w/ sis, she didn't get the same letter???? weird, she just i.m. ed -- told me i should nt have used spiegel's CC, anyway, she has had no problem....


first got letter, i couldnt place anymore charges, about a month ago, but still i was ordering from Eddie Bauer,

today, i got mail that said ......
i was being charged back for all the GC's and they figure they come to $275. Well,

strange thing, i have all the paper GC's,.... sure glad i kept them. could have thrown them away. NOT A ONE SHOWS ANY LIMITATIONS.... of course, all my family's come here.... as i am the one that orders for them... and i go back a LONG way with Spiegel's.

on and on.... finally just a few minutes ago, had an honest person (i guess) from Spiegel's tell me , the person i really needed to talk to wouldnt be in until tomorrow. gave me main #...... big deal....
but then, again, u dont know how many #s i've called today, how many people have given me the run around.....

anyway, they said in letter today how many merchandise certificates i'd used, which i had , but ALL I"D RECECEIVED-- certainly THOUGHT I WAS supposed to use them --- hey, i'm not stupid ....

anyway......... looks like the "loss recovery" team (Spiegel's team) is trying to recover Spiegel's losses ....


well, they WONT DO IT AT MY EXPENSE....

and my Sis, who's placed every order i have, has not received no such letter, or even an acute ATTEMPT to charge (scam) her American Express LOL

Well i havent received a letter yet...nor do i think i will ( as stated i only used 2 g.c. codes) Just looked back on my last bill and the closing date was 6/20 .. which means 7/20 will be the next..so i should be getting my bill (statement) soon after. Will let you guys know if i get any charges .. which of course i will not pay. I have used spiegel forever, including newport news, the thought of getting billed for something like this will surely upset me

this letter was a total shock to me, as i have been using spiegel's long before internet....
have used w/ Eddie Bauer, Newport....


just cant' understand... i knew something funny was going on, when the last few merch certs i 'd tried to use they kept telling me i had to mail in.... which i didnt mind doing so...


but NEVER in my wildest dreams would have thought that i have to go back and check every order i've EVER RECEIVED AND WHAT I"VE MAILED BACK, what was cancelled, who got what, and so on and so on..... i just cant DO THAT.... to justify the total bill.... but i guess i'll have to.. i just trusted the CS when they told me what was what... what applied to what, what i could use and what i couldnt.... i trusted them....


is it legal....?
i dont know..... my sis is STILL having no problems....

but she uses nothing but AMEX....

I used my Visa, don't have a Spiegel card.

You know what's really wierd is $275 is the exact amt they said I had used, yet they are only requesting a payment of $198.33.

well, my last Spiegel CC showed $45
just got it less than 5 days ago,
Today its' $320.... and still... no one knows why.... they cant explain....
numbers i call , all refer me to other numbers


no one knows. and yet, Sis, who used Amex....
has had no problem....... and i doubt she ever will
