Ive only seen it in the can of 3M dust remover "caned air" thingy. it contains a bittering agent to stop "huffing", or intentional inhailing of the fumes to get high. the bittering agent is VERY powerful. i was dusting my keyboard out, i had removed all the keys, all 135 keys (gigantic G15), and was just blowing out all the cat hair and poptart particles. well, i had tiped the can too far and the usual white stuff came out. its best described as a really cold spray. usually its not a problem, just wait for it to evaporate, and continue on with your buisness. well, after about 15 seconds, it started to smell, the kind of smell whare you have to get out of the room because your nose is burning, and you cant breathe. if i was breathing thru my mouth, it tasted like motor oil after 200,000 miles, mixed with a tub or cherry robitussin, very nasty. so i opend a window, and left the room with the fan on. 10 minutes later, the smell was gone, and i wiped down the keyboard with a paper towel, there was some kind of residue on it. Worst thing happend when i was dusing out a DS a few days later, i had forgoten about the bittering agent. i saw that there was a lot of dust whare the pen is stored, so i hit it with the can. i again had the can tilted, and the mist came out, and i instantly could taste it, it was nasty, i again left my room, and came back 10 minutes later, thinking it was all gone. well, i slid the pen back into its place, and fired up my homebrew games. while one of them was loading, i had taken the pen and rolled it around on my lips, i was bored, and i couldnt think of anything else to do while it loaded . the film had transferd from the socket, to the pen, and onto my lips. after a few minutes, i could taste it again. and no, water didnt take it off, lots of soap did. i dont recall this ever happening with the normal cheep cans i buy at fry's ([Only registered and activated users can see links. | Re: 3M dust remover warning
Wow, interesting that I see someone complaining about potentially saving a kids life. I read in a book once (don't know what book or if it was a magazine, but I read it...Might have even been a forwarded email) that an officers kid DIED at a VERY young age from huffing that dust off stuff. It's very unsafe to have around school age children because I read up on this and ONE TIME huffing this stuff can kill you!!! It's serious stuff. I guess my reason for posting was a remedy to your problem...lol....what if you just use the dusting brush attachment that comes with your vacuum and vacuum the pop tarts and other mysterious crumbs out of the keyboard? That's what I do since my son insists on eating at the computer! |

Well, thats the problem, im using it as intended, but the anti-huffer stuff in the can comes out during normal use, like blowing bits of poptart out of the keys. but its much more stronger when its sprayed in liquid form. having someone shoot the air on your shirt is enough to take it off.

I've seen warnings on other cans saying that inhaling on purpose can make you sick or even cause death. I know it costs a bit more, but makes me think of buting a little portable air compressor.

| Re: 3M dust remover warning Well, if you buy one, dont use it on stuff you arent afraid to get a tiny bit wet. so blasting down your desk and vacuming up the particles or super dusting would be perfect. but i wouldnt use it on electronics because with an air compressor, condensation comes out the nozzle because of the compression, so you get little drops of water. the small ones they have at walmart and stuff are only good for hosing down the work bench, and inflating bicycle tires, they cant really fill up a car tire, unless you get a largerone.
