Rolling eyes Target...can't we all just get along?

I've been reading some of the complaints about Target, their return policy, and their employees. I work at Target at the service desk and when I read a few posts regarding the behavior and or attitude of the employees. People I make 7 dollars an hour. I am offered no overtime or bonus package of any kind. I took the job because it is fairly low commitment. That being said I have come to the realization that more often than not our Guests come to Guest Serivices angry and ready to fight. Target puts out their return policy on the back of every ticket and I have to follow their rules. I wish I could make exceptions but I am not allowed to. Still I am yelled at on a daily basis by Guests who have no reciept. I get the F-word spoken to me at least once a day and I am still nice! But I don't like reading that I should not only smile to every angry Guest I speak with, but I should also kiss every Guests butt because "if those people didn't shop there you wouldn't have a job!" (someone posted that in another thread.) Kids in China make more cash than me! I like my job enough to show up, but not enough to kiss every jerks rear...If you are angry about our return policy I understand- it isn't perfect. But if you try to make a return using fowl and condecending language I'm not gonna smile or bend over backwards to make things work for you. I understand your frustration but it doesn't give you the right to raise your voice, swear, throw things around or threaten my job. If someone is willing to be patient and kind I can usually make things work......thanx for letting me unload!!!

Re: Target...can't we all just get along?

The Target return desk employees here are professional and friendly. I can't recall ever encountering one with an 'attitude'. But then I don't swear at them, throw things, or show up without my receipt, either

Re: Target...can't we all just get along?

the target by my house (its run down and stuff like that), the employees are usually nice, i have a positive attitude, so when someone starts acting weird, its their fault, like that one lady that sits behind what appears to be the costumer service desk, she started getting mad when we were asking about the fishing liscences, like she hated her job or something. some people just shouldnt have that kind of a job whare they take it out on the customers, she needs to be a janitor or something. however the nice guy over at the sports/electronics "zone" was pretty helpful, and usually is, but sometimes that lady is the only one around, and asking her whare the quarter inch to whatever converter plugs are is litterally a complete waste of time. how many times have you heard "if it isnt over there, then we dont sell it" when all they had to do was do a simple search in the computer? its been done at that store before. but the guy thats mainly at that stores customer service desk is usually nice, getting yelled at and not jumping across the desk and slapping the customer. they usually put up with a lot, and i think because of that they should atleast get paid a little more or something, maby a greater store discount or something for dealing with stuff like that

Re: Target...can't we all just get along?

I agree--nicely put. People should treat people the way they want to be treated.

I think part of the over all big picture problem is that the USA has exported so many jobs to other countries, and because of that, there are more jobs then people now. So companies can get away with paying people in the USA very little and also offering no benefits.

I don't want to get into politics, but hopefully our next president will bring some jobs back home and be less focused on searching for weapons of mass destruction that don't exist.

I am sorry that you have to deal with so much crap for only $7 an hour. No one deserves to have the F word spoken to them, yelled at them, etc. Are people so stupid that they think a $7 an hour employee controls store policy and makes up the rules? No offense to you, but people--come on!!!

These policies are made at the corporate level by the same people who decide to pay Dithergirl just $7 an hour with no benefits.

Re: Target...can't we all just get along?

I have nothing against the nice hard working people at target. It is just the corporate policy that is frustrating me along with others. Here is my experience:
DO NOT open registry at targets, unless you know that all your guests are perfect at keeping their receipts, including gift receipts and making sure that they or the store clerk has removed it from the registry! You can’t be responsible for all your guests and the store clerk following through and w/o that receipt targets will make it impossible to return your duplicate items.

Daughter opened her registry in Jan. and wedding was aug 10, they did not allow items over $20 to be returned even when purchased off the registry. we also had the problem of them not being removed, this makes me think part of the blame for not removing items from the registry is the fault of target, as they scan the paper and sometimes it doesn't scan properly. They refused to give us store credit. 3 Blenders (only sold at targets!) they are $29.99- $9.99 over their $20 limit. Is is my daughter's fault that targets did not remove it or that her guest may have forgotten to have it removed???? Does that mean we should inform all our guests that they must attach a targets receipt. As far as paying attention to their registry??? How were we to know if any one had purchased it????, so we could remove it? Anyways, store mgr and corporate office said the same out of luck!

This is there email response to me from the corporate office:
“If you don't have a receipt, we still have a few options for you:

- Your local store will accommodate two no receipt returns a year for you on small gifts under $20.
- We have the ability to look up a receipt's information for the gift giver, so they can make a return on most purchases, provided they purchased your item with a check, Target GiftCard, credit or debit card within the past 90 days.
- If the gift giver still has the original receipt for the item, they have the ability to reprint a gift receipt at the Guest Service desk next time they visit Target.” “I'm sorry if you feel our last e-mail reply wasn't satisfactory, but we aren't able to further assist you with your return. “

jean I absolutly agree with you on that!! I try to remind registry users to encourange their gift givers to include reciepts. The whole registry thing stinks though...I feel they are unfair on purpose in order to make money. Even though I work there I encourage you to tell your friends NOT to register at Target. It's all bs at corporate. They aren't the ones who get screwed. Another thing you might want to try is to call their customer service number and speak to an actual person. If you sound angry enough they may help you out. If the first person you speak with won't help you, ask for their manager and be equally as firm with him or her. The more people you speak with person to person the more likely you will get some sort of refund. It may take you an afternoon, but it'll be worth it.....Good luck and let me know how it goes!!

Re: Target...can't we all just get along?

I hate having to return things beavuse of "policies." Its always difficult. So I donate my items that need to be returned to charity and get a tax write off. BUT BE SURE TO KEEP THAT RECEIPT!!!!
