I am SOOOO mad at both UPS and FEDEX. They both have been delivering items at my house when no one is home and just leaving the boxes with no signatures!!! While I suppose this could be convenient if I were home during the day, it is downright super INCONVENIENT when I'm not. My hubby ordered several books and they were delivered promptly by UPS. Unfortunately, they had been blown around the neighborhood and buried under snow. One of the neighbors several houses away was good enough to bring one package back to us and we found two others when we shoveled 12 inches of snow. I have tried putting notes on my door for the delivery people to put the items inside my (unlocked) garage but they won't do it (this is approximately 6 inches from my door). Also, I live in a LARGE condo complex (over 350) and they are supposed to deliver ALL packages to the rental office anyway. They just run up and throw the package at your door, I happened to be pulling into the complex at the same time that they were delivering at 8:30 at nite!! When I saw the delivery guy drop my Netgrocer package and run, I got steamed. I tried calling both FEDEX and UPS C/S and all I got was "our policy is to no longer require signatures on these types of packages"....so, what am I paying their shipping charges for? And now FEDEX is raising their rates??? OOOOOOHHHHH gimme a break!

We had a very similar problem here (Oregon). I posted a message the week of Christmas because I was having problems with FedEx ground/home delivery. One of my husband's Christmas presents didn't show up until December 29th, though FedEx said it would be delivered on the 21st. I got every excuse in the book from them as to why it was late. One thing I learned, and it's definitely worth noting for future reference, is that FEDEX HOME DELIVERY DRIVERS ARE INDEPENDENT CONTRACTORS - NOT DIRECT EMPLOYEES OF FEDEX! From what I've seen, they tend not to abide by any of the rules that FedEx has for delivery - including leaving packages without requiring a signature. I'm doing battle with FedEx right now over the Christmas present fiasco. (By the way, Airborne Express is the same way - they dump stuff at my door all the time without a signature, and I actually had a delivery stolen because of that!). By far the best service I've gotten has been through the good ol' Postal Service, with UPS running a moderate second!

I've had a similiar situation with UPS THREE times. They never ring the bell to let me know there is a package outside. I've had perishable food sitting outside all night long. I called their 800 number on 1/3 and was told I would receive a return call from a supervisor within 24 hours. Needless to say, I never received that return call. When I called the next day to ask why I never received a return call they "claim" that the supervisor called me back within 10 minutes to explain the situation and that when the UPS guy was back from vacation he would be told to ring the bell. I don't know who they called and told this to but it wasn't me. I asked what happened to the signing procedure and they told me they only ask for a signature if there is a high theft rate in your neighborhood. You can't even call your local UPS office. I asked the guy why and he said they don't publish their number because they would be deluged with phone calls (I wonder why?!?!?!). When I called back on 1/4 I was told a supervisor would contact me within an hour and it's 1/5 an I'm still waiting for that call.

I soooooooooooooooooooooooooo understand your frustration geepie! That's what FedEx kept telling me...."you will receive a call from someone at the local terminal tomorrow letting you know the status of your shipment". They told me that two days in a row, and of course, I NEVER received a call!! One of the main problems I was having was the fact that since the items were shipped straight from the manufacturer, they were in the manufacturer's packaging (not brown-boxed), so you could see exactly what was in the box!!! To leave it on my doorstep with no signature at least two hours before anyone would be home from work/school put our Christmas gifts in full view of anyone passing by!!! When I mentioned this to the people at FedEx, I was told "Oh, that's a BIG no no! We'll make sure and talk to the driver about that!" When I did FINALLY get my shipment, nine days late, it was once again left on my doorstep with no signature!!! If I didn't totally deplore shopping at the mall, this kind of stuff might turn me off online shopping forever! |

I have another good fed ex story for you. I had two boxes of merchandise delivered by fed ex from the old navy store. Not only was it left outside on the porch..but it was the wrong porch. The house number was the same but different street. Lucky for me the lady that lived there took the time to find my phone number and call me and even had her husband bring it to my house. When i called fed ex customer service about it they said how great it was that the lady did that. You would think that they would at least reimburse shipping or pay the ladies husband for bringing it to me. I told them that they had sloppy delivery procedures and would avoid using them at all costs. I have called old navys customer service about it also. I would suggest letting the online merchants know of your complaints...thay can always ship through someone else. I am sure that fed ex and the like don't want to lose these big contracts.

I never received a wreath that I ordered from garden.com via Fed Ex. They have record of it being delivered, no signature required. I never got it. I'm trying to deal with my credit card company now and if they don't excuse the charge, I will go to fed ex. Usually UPS, USPS and Fed ex leave it under the mat and/or pull this large piece of wicker furniture to hide it.

I know it really bites to have to spend MORE money to protect packages that you have already spent to buy and ship -- but, due to the weird work schedules in my household, I finally broke down and got a PMB at a Parcel Plus. SHOP AROUND -- the Parcel Plus in my area was less than half the price of Mailboxes Etc! I hate having to go over there and pick them up, but at least I know (1) nobody will get awakened by the delivery person, and (2) the package will be safe from the weather and from theft. The only problem I have now is that my "shipping" address doesn't match the "billing" address on my credit card... <sigh>

My experience with UPS isn't as bad as those mentioned, but one recent order really irked me. I ordered two different items from FirstAuction on 1/26 and 1/27. One came fine, didn't get first attempt notice, but got 2nd attempt notice, so I called them and said I'd pick up from their warehouse. Never got a notice for 2nd order. Called FirstAcution after couple weeks: CS: It was delivered and signed by some Mr. X in Iowa. Me: What the heck? I don't live in IA. Can I have tracking #? CS: Gives me tracking #. I call UPS to complain about my package being delivered to IA, and about not getting all the attempt slips. ' CS: Your tracking #? Me: Gives her the #. CS: Hold on, not lots of info here. After several minutes. Ok, seems it was returned to sender. Me: Why? CS: Delivery person noted that the package was refused at delivery address. Me: *livid now* How is that possible? I am the only one living at the apartment and am never home during the day so how could someone refuse it? Do they choose random doors to knock on? CS: I don't know what happened. I'm so sorry. Me: Yeah right. Sorry, just had to vent. |

Recently I ordered a coffee tale from Ubid.com, beautiful table for only $81.00 retail $250.00. I was thrilled, but then to find out $61.00 for shipping I felt cheated! At the time I was receiving packages 3 times a week from merchants like Amazon, bluelight, christmas gifts, wine.com (and 9months Pregnant baby gifts)so UPS Man was friendly to us. I vented about the shipping cost and told him I am tying to work out shipping costs or cancel the order with ubid.com. He said" I will check with you before I haul the table out to your door." I said wonderful. It was a miracle ubid gave me nearly free shipping (at cost for them, only $14.00) So I wait and wait and wait for my table. I received packages but no table. I finally after 3 weeks do a track on the table to find out that I had refused it and it was back at the warehouse. I said I did not refuse, never received notice of it arrriving. WELL the UPS man had went ahead and wrote refuse and sent it back. Yes I complained and told him a few unkind words. But things are better now, cause I am still internet happy shopper and stuck with him as my delivery man with no coffee table.

Had two more bad experiences with UPS. I tripped over a box that was outside all night again when I left for work this morning. My new printer was sitting outside most of the evening a couple of weeks ago. I wouldn't have even gone out again that night if I didn't have to take the trash out. Still NEVER received a return call from January 5th. I refuse to call again because I don't want to upset myself all over again.
