Oh I cannot believe this one. My Brother in Florida mailed two priority mail packges to me in Virginia on Dec. 20th one to my other brother in New Jersey the same day. New Jersey got their package on Christmas Eve. I got nothing until one of the packages showed up on Dec. 28th. The second package showed up yesterday!! January 3!!!! Now what really gets my goat is on December 24 I ordered something from Novica from BRAZIL and it left the day after christmas SLOW boat shipping and it arrived day before yesterday! SO that means that the US postal service took 14 days to get a priority mail package about 800 miles but I can get a package from another part of the WORLD in only a week!!!! sheeesh. Oh yeah raise the rates you deserve a raise.

Not only are they slow, I've also been getting breakables bought from ebay broken! They're marked FRAGILE all over, they're insured, and they still arrive broke! Around Christmas, our news showed airport workers throwing packages around like basketballs.

I think the ebay sellers can get their money back, so eventually I'll get my money back if they're honest, but what a hassle!

Sorry to hear about the breakables! Since the rates went up I have been comparing costs between ups and prioirity mail. Its working out to be cheaper to go ups and that is before any insurance at the PO. AND this even includes UPS coming to my house to pick items up.

The problem with going UPS is that their service isn't any better either. I'm away at college, but back home, we have a chain length fence around our house, because we have 3 dogs. I send packages there sometimes that I order, and we've had fragiles thrown over the fence because of the chow we have in the yard. That's not even the worst part...I ordered my college class ring and had it sent home, if you know anything about ring boxes, you know how small they are packaged. UPS decided to throw the ring over the fence, despite the fact that my mom has called repeatedly and told them to either leave a note, leave a package with the neighbor next door, or even call her and she will come to pick them up...but NO. They threw it over the fence, and here's the good part...the mail woman saw my chow chewing on the box after the guy threw it over the fence, and left my mom a note to let her know the box was somewhere in the yard. She came home, and thankfully found it...chewed up as expected, but luckily the ring had not come out, or he would have surely swallowed it. If anything, in my opinion, there are no postal or delivery services that are worth anything anymore...we pay money for what, certainly not good service!

No kidding, UPS delivered several items to my house (they were all books). They left them against the side of the house (not in front of the door) and never left a message that they were there. We were home at the time of delivery and they never rang the doorbell either. WELL, as you can expect in NH, it snowed overnite (about 10 inches) and when the plow came to plow us out, it plowed the books right up to the end of the street. My neighbor found them (I don't know how) and gave us the books. They were OK (a little wet but they dried out) and the packaging was toast. When I called UPS to file a complaint, they told me that since I had my items and they were in good condition and they don't require signatures for these types of packages anymore, that I didn't have anything to complain about. GRRRRR, Unfortunately, FEDEX is no better, they literally THREW my Netgrocer box at my front door from about 10 feet away (nothing broker thank goodness). I guess that there really isn't anyone to step up with really good customer service.

I have been having trouble witht he new Priority Mail under 1 pound rate of $3.50 versus the $3.95 rate for 1-2 pounds. It seems it will always ring up $3.95 and the extra postage must be taken off by the clerk. I sell on Ebay and I keep shipping the same 10 ounce package. I am often charged $3.95. When I point it out, some say they don't know how to take it off, some will take it off, and one clerk refused because it was in a Priority Mail box! (I had 3 of them at the time.) I e-mailed the US postal service and they said, "sorry," but all these extra 45 cent charges are really adding up for me!

teachtime...... It happened to me too......I honestly think the fixed their scales..I had a package to mail out for ebay....I charged $3.20 ( I didn't realize the rate went up) So I knew I was going to be out $.75.....I could not believe it when the rate came up on the screen...$10.95 priority and $8.53 parcel !!!! I was shocked.....for 2 shirts and a pair of jeans. I have been doing ebay for 15 months now and have never misjudged shipping like that !!!!
I think the USPS is getting way to greedy with the postage !!!!

I realized the rates went up, but I am a poor judge of how much something weighs. I charged $3.95 to mail 2 kid's wooden puzzles and it was $7.95! How could they weigh that much? I almost fell over. I must wonder about their scales! I totally lost money on that auction as I even paid more for the puzzles than the winner did.

7 days for priority mail

I keep having problems with shipping time too! Seems almost pointless to ship and pay priority when it takes so long. I just got a package someone mailed last Monday. And I keep having ebay buyers emailing saying the packages aren't there yet. What to do? Can you complain about the post office to someone?

Thumbs down i'm in virginia too (newport news)...

and i have to say that i totally agree with everyone here about the USPS AND UPS!!! i've never received nor sent a package Fed-ex so i can't comment on that one...i have received packages and what not via usps and let me tell you i've had money/checks stolen from personal packages, christmas presents, the whole entire contents once just an empty box was what i received, most of the freebies i get are either gone, or crushed and broken IF i even get them at all...i've had packages that have had footprints even tire marks on them!! the one or 2 i receive in actual good condition certainly don't make up for the countless ones i've had damaged, stolen, or stolen from! and the rates WHEW don't even get me started! my ups man is like the meanest person in the world! what a jerk!! i hate it when something comes ups and he comes to the door, grrrrr! hopefully when we move soon it won't be as bad!!

Well, I love our UPS man ... he brings tons of packages
here and never complains. He did say, however, that
my husband must be a saint if he doesn't mind me buying
all this stuff on the internet! (grin)

I do however, have a major problem with the post office.
On the 19th I mailed one of those express mail letter paks
from my post office (southwestern Ohio) to Chicago ...
and it hasn't been delivered yet! Give me a Break!
NEVER AGAIN - THE POST OFFICE CANNOT BE TRUSTED!

I'm calling FedEx. Yes, they charge me $17.30 to come
to my house and pick up my envelope, but you know what -
they actually manage to deliver my mail! On time!
Gee-wilkers-wiz!

File a complaint

You can file a complaint with the postal service. Ask
for a customer service card. The postal service is required to respond within 24 or 48 hours to these cards.
You can also speak directly to the supervisor or postmaster. The only way to help resolve these problems
is let the appropriate person know of your concerns/complaints. As far as the scales being off...
ask for a rate chart and weigh your parcel at home before
bringing it to the post office, this way you will have an idea how much it will cost. Any clerk can remove postage
before a meter strip is printed. It is done all the time, don't let them tell you differently. Priority mail is now
trackable so keep this in mind.

Smile USPS Kudos

Sorry to hear of your postal service woes. I have nothing but kudos for them and the work they do. Prices are nothing compared to gas and time, etc. Imagine if you had to hand-deliver something! I look forward to mail delivery everyday (freebies and prizes), although my postal carrier probably doesn't share my enthusiasm :-D
