Home Depot

On Jan 15 2007, I refunded 14 crown moulding corner pieces (Product # 840469016217 and 840469016231). 3 pieces I have a receipt for and was refunded at full price of $4.95 each. The other 11 pieces was refunded at the lowest sale price of $2.99 each. The refund receipt only display the total refund amount. There is no indication of the refund price per item. Furthermore, the head cashier failed to mention that without the receipt, the refunded amount will be the lowest sale price. If she mentioned this, I would have waited till I find the original receipt. Well, that day, I was issued a store credit and subsequently spent it. Only after I got home did I realized that I wasn't refunded the original price after doing the math. Therefore, the next day, I brought in both my refund receipt and my original receipt. However, the duty manager said that because I spent my store credit, there is no way for them to cancel the store credit and reissue another store credit. I asked if they can reissue the difference and she said no. Furthermore, I called their Customer Care head office and was basically told that this is their policy and they can't do anything about it other than take my complaint. At the end of the day, I lost a total of $24.79.

Re: Home Depot

Yikes! That is not good!

When you called the Customer Care center, did you ask to speak to a supervisor or anything? It may not help, but sometimes the higher up you are able to make it, the more 'options' there are to bypass their policy. Sorry about the trouble. We don't have one around here, so I have no basis to offer any further info/advice.

Re: Home Depot

Hi,
Unfortunately, without a receipt, that's the normal procedure. Did you put those items on a credit card, as if you did, you should be able to get the difference credited to your account. And, yes, call their main office too - speak to someone who can authorize the difference in a refund, as long as the other things are within their refund policy (whatever amount of days that is).
If you don't have the phone number to the main office, the store should definitely give it to you.
Let us know how you make out, good luck!

Kat

I didn't have a receipt when I refund the first day but the next day, I brought in the original receipt that showed how much I paid originally. The manager wanted to give me a full refund as I had the original receipt the next day but since I used the store credit, they have no procedure to refund the difference. Well, at this point, I'm not sure if it's worth the hassle to call and speak to the supervisor as it is only $25. But maybe I'll try later and post results. Thanx.

Re: Home Depot

If they issued the store credit on a gift type card can they return the stuff you bought, credit the "gift card" and fix it from there? Like you said, it may be more hassle than it's worth to go through all the time calling and explaining what happened etc., a lesson learned for future purchases

Re: Home Depot

There's another thought. Return the stuff that you bought w/the gift card. Then you'll have the full amount of the receipt for them to refund you the money. It's a hassle, but when we don't go after things like this, companies will keep getting away with it, believe me, their paperwork from you doing that will be more of a hassle! Good luck!
