U.S. Postal Service - Rate Increase

Personally, I think it completely stinks that the governing board has approve the USPS to once again raise the rates for sending mail.

Thinking from a company standpoint, there are far better ways to save money.

In my city of around 13,000 people, there are two post offices which means two Postmasters.. who rake in a pretty penny in salary. There is absolutely no need to have two postmasters in such a small town.

Then, in the outlying areas, the tiny little towns, boroughs, etc each of these areas have post offices.. that is good, in my opinion, but to pay the ONE person working there as a Postmaster? C'mon!!!

Yes, the rate is only going up one penny. It adds up quickly.

I think the USPS needs to reorganize and figure out better ways to save money other then throwing the burden on the consumer.

This is not the way for the post office to MAKE more money...this just gives me more justification to use my computer for MORE things...I've already signed up for online bill payments and banking, (the neat thing is that I usually get a reduction in interest rates for doing a direct pay) I make my car payment, insurance, and some of my utilities by autowithdawals....I use e-mail to contact family and friends, and with the help of the GREAT people at deal of day, I have found online shopping to be a godsend, (The free shipping deals are the BEST!!). About the only thing that I pay postage for is the items I win on e-bay!!! As the rates from the Post Office increase all the time by a penny here, a penny there, the less I will use them....certainly as more people get comfortable with online and security gets better, the less the post office will be used....I don't think Ben Franklin would like the fact that the Post Office is now a "profit center" for the government!!

NOT ONLY IS THE RATE HIKE COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY AND UNWARRANTED**THEY CAN'T EVEN DO A DECENT JOB...THE POST OFFICE WHERE I LIVE IS ALWAYS DELIVERING THE WRONG MAIL..LOSING MY AMAZON PACKAGES....AND I DON'T GET HALF OF MY BILLS IN THE MAIL...I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT MY AMAZON WAS DELIVERED TO THE WRONG ADDRESS....PICKED UP BY THE CARRIER..AND SOMEHOW GOT "LOST"...MY MAILBOX IS ALWAYS LEFT OPEN FOR THE HIGH WINDS IN THE AREA TO SWEEP MY MAIL AWAY ALSO...IF I WOULDN'T BE HOME TO SEE THIS DAILY...YOU JUST WOULD NOT BELIEVE.....AND THEY WANT AN INCREASE???FOR WHAT???TO KEEP F***** THE HARDWORKING CONSUMER WHO IS AT THEIR MERCY.....IF IT WAS UP TO ME,,,I WOULD VOTE UPS AND FED EX TO DELIVER ALL MY MAIL...IT WOULD BE WELL WORTH THE MONEY AND MUCH MORE DEPENDABLE...HAVE A GREAT DAY

I can't complain about my mail carrier, he does come a bit late for me, around 3pm, but our mail comes right up to our doorstep and when there are packages he will knock at the door before he goes to let us know its on the step and at income tax time he will knock on the door and hand us the check so it doesn't have to go in the mailbox. He also knows that all the "odd" address I use with "odd" names also belong to me and automatically drops them at my house LOL. I honestly don't even care about the penny increase, I may mail 2 pieces of mail a month, all my banking and bill paying are done online.

I also can not complain about our postal service. The gal who delivers is kind and friendly. She provides great service. Yes it seems the rates keep going up...but what dosen't. This is the only government service which actually makes a profit. It's just a penny.

Got some new stamps today. When I bought them it reminded me how my mailman never knocks on the door when he has a package. Sometimes they sit out there all night.

It's not the 1 cent that I care about-it the priority mail rates! They've gone way up and cut the starting weight down to one pound instead of two. I think that this will hurt alot of people that sell small items on ebay because people aren't going to pay alot when they have to pay so much extra for shipping. Anyone else think this too?

I did not realize the cost of priority mail was also going up AGAIN. Nor did I realize the starting weight was going down to one pound. What is the new weight to mail one pound priority?

I think i read that up to one pound is 3.50 now and over one pound to two is 3.95 for priority mail.

I will never go with priority mail again. I mailed a package to my sister in AZ (I live in PA) last Wednesday and she still didn't get it. Why did I bother?!

If you think the domestic postage rate increases are high, you should look at international rates! A package I was going to send went from $7.50 on the 6th of Jan to $18.75 after the rate increase!!

You can go to usps.com and print out the new shipping chart. I sell on ebay and now have to take even more out of my profit to compensate for this increase in rates. I already have to pay the fees, if I charged the right shipping amount no one would bid because they'd think I was trying to get more money out of them !!! The increase really hurts the online auctions.
On the other subject..my mailcarrier is an a**hole !!! We went to Michigan on emergency leave for 6 days, when we got home I had 4 packages sitting in between my door and screen door, of course the screen door was wide open. I called the post office and they told me they were delivered 4 days ago....They had been sitting there for 4 days !!!!!! I was so ticked off, thank god we live in military housing and no one stole the boxes....by the way one of them was a 4 piece luggage set !! Inbetween my doors !!
I am waiting for the delivery of a power wheels from etoys....it is coming USPS..needless to say I have been waiting for the past 7 days for a package supposed to be delivered in 3-5 !!!
