I had purchased a Canon BJC3000 printer from Staples thanks to a post here at DOD. Printer came...I shipped it to NC for a Christmas present. There was a rebate with it and I received it last week. It was NOT a cash rebate. It was a STORE gift check. The problem is, it can ONLY be redeemed in a B&M store! Can you believe it? I purchased it ONLINE and they sent me a gift check for a store! The closest one is 1 1/2 hours from here! I have been on the phone with no less than 10 people trying to get them to make some sense out of this. Right now, I am on hold waiting for a store manager at the closest store to see if he can ship me an order and use this gift check....I'll let you know what happens...I shouldnt have to be going through all this....I wont ever shop at Staples again! They are not trying to be helpful at ALL!!

Tasker:
Can you please post the outcome of your phone call? I got the $30 check for the rebate too, and the closest Staples B&M store is in Phoenix, 100 miles away
TIA,
DK

Staples

The store manager was not helpful at all. This is the stupidest thing I have ever been through. You would think I was trying to redeem a Lechter's 50% off coupon at Staples!!! I could order over the phone but they may or may not have what I ordered and it would take numerous calls and faxing the coupon to them ....I ended up calling the 800-3STAPLE number again and asking for a supervisor. This guy finally took my order and told me to send the gift check and a personal check for the balance to them....grrrr......I tell you what, Staples just lost a customer. That is the worst service I ever encountered!!

I am sorry for your problems, but I believe when I went in to look at the deal on Staples, it specifically said it was a gift check. You have to check out these deals for yourselves. If you continue to take some deals at face value, you will continue to get burned!!!!!!!!!

I cannot complain about the deal, because I had Staples price match a best buy deal, and even without the $30 check I paid only $55.

Don't feel bad, glberry, I really appreciate you posting the deal. Staples is the entity being unreasonable.

Not that this is the resolution you are looking for, but if things don't work out, you could always sell the gift check or trade it on the boards.

Good idea,jsalba...but there may be a problem. Staples issued the check in the customer's name. Is there a way that someone else can use it?
TIA for any info,
DK

well......i ordered some stuff a long while back from staples and used my credit card...when my statement came they charged me twice (in two different amounts---and not even the amount my shopping cart showed when i checked out) for the items i bought.... sooooooooo i called staples and they went through this big long ordeal about i don't know.....i don't show you're order totaling that much....dadadadadadada....... so i called my bank....and they credited the amount because I KEPT THE PRINT OUT OF MY RECEIPT FROM THE ONLINE ORDER (hint if you don't have a printer-------copy and paste the entire page from the final order and all your totals and email it to yourself...then you can at least have a copy) anyway...it got resolved only because i got my bank involved in the whole deal.... i'll shop locally from staples...but never again via email

BTW TASKER----------------------- i know what my christmas present is

Thumbs down

I haven't ever shopped the Staples online store because of all the bad stories I have heard. Or at least not so good outcomes. I was just in a local B&M store the other nite...was going to buy a new computer desk and chair, which we all know can be a pricey purchase. But I was getting a terrific deal...but the customer service was sooo bad. It took over 15 minutes to get someone to help me, then it took forever to get my items and check out. LOUSEY...I know that I won't shop there again. So the B&M isn't as great as the online store either.

I had placed two orders with them in Sept. for the deal $20 off of $50...I ordered two phones and two computer software pkgs (seperate orders) The totals after rebates and coupons should have been .01 or something..well they cancelled the software after telling me it had been shipped then one CS rep. told me my order wasnt $50 so I had to order something else another said it wasnt my fault it was cancelled and said I would still get the coupon, then when I got my credit card statement I had been charged the full amount! I have called them dozens of times trying to get this resolved and they say it has been taken care of (hadnt got my creditcard statement yet for this month to check it)Plus, I just got my rebate from the order yesterday! Almost 3 months! I am like you I will never order from them online again!

Baffled Say No To Staples!

A friend of mine purchased a "brand new" computer from Staples and had many problems with it. They would not honor their "warranty" so she took it to have it repaired and it was then she found out that the computer was refurbished! How dare they! Be alert if you do shop there.

The problem with office supply stores is that the employees (generally speaking) are not computer experts. Their job is to sell, not figure out what's best for you. My advice is to go directly to a computer manufacturer and you'll get a good computer by paying (usually) only a little more. Dell, Gateway, and Micron are all strong companies with good customer service policies. You get what you pay for with companies like these. Even if they totally screw up they usually end up working things out, although I'm sure there have been exceptions.

You get what you pay for with office supply stores, too, like a mystery refurbished computer! I'd be furious too!
