$50 Ashford.com GC from Compaq is invalid

I made a purchase at Ashford.com using the GC from Compaq venture, but when I called to track on order the rep. told me that all the GC from Compaq venture is invaild and need to contact compaq. Anyone having this problem?????

I just called the Ashford customer service, and they told me they are not accepting the GC from compaq venture. What should I do?

The gift certificate code you entered during checkout was available only
in connection with a promotion offered by Compaq to specifically
identified e-mail recipients. The e-mail from Compaq specified that the
Ashford gift certificate was available only for the first 10,000 people to
register for a Compaq on-line newsletter, that it was valid only for the
recipient of the Compaq e-mail, and that it was non-transferable. Because
these terms and conditions were not satisfied with respect to your order,
the gift certificate cannot be honored on your order.

To avoid any confusion as to your charges, your order has been canceled.

Compaq will send communication to all recipients (valid or invalid) to
advise them that due to abuse of the gift certificate promotion, the gift
certificates and orders have been cancelled. Compaq will re-issue gift
certificates to qualified people once it is determined which customers are
entitled to receive the Ashford.com gift certificate. We hope that new
gift certificates will be issues within the next two weeks.

Also read on another board posts from some kids who took 50 of them. I can't blame ashford or compaq for canceling with abuse like that.

Yeah but it sucks for those who just did one (like me)

i think Compaq is at fault.. i mean they are adverting E*commerce and they screw up like this? what would they expect when they are offering $50 just to sign up for a mailing list?

I mean i knew this was going to happen, b/c I didn't even use the GC.. just waiting to see if it goes through or not eheh.

nevertheless, i agree compaq has the rights to cancel it..but they should have done more when giving out GC.. or else suffer the consequences
