| Newport News Sucks Their highly touted $5 sale was a farce, most items were out of stock even when confirmed by customer service. Or orders were canceled even when still showing the items on the site. Or you were charged a higher price when you checked your order status. Deferred Billing is a rip-off. Their definition of deferred billing is to lock the amount on your credit card until the month you choose for "Deferred Billing". Translation - they bill your credit card immediately. I confirmed this with customer service. After having all of the above happen on all my orders I will never shop Newport News again! BTW - someone on FW posted that they spoke with a CSR who said that all orders would be revisited and adjusted to reflect the "correct" amount, as the $5 sale was a "mistake."

| Re: NewPort News Sucks I agree. I placed 3 orders and all were cancelled. I didn't have expectations of getting anything once I heard what was happening with the cancellations and the website not updating stock for days, etc. A joke of a sale, but how can they say it was a mistake?? The biggest joke was the email giving a 15% discount on a future order. |

| Re: NewPort News Sucks Thanks so much for the heads-up. I will cross them off my list of companies to deal with. I had never ordered from them before, but I thought that had cute clothes too. That is ridiculous to say that a highly advertised $5 sale was a "mistake". LOL, somebody should sue for false advertising.

| Incorrect about Deferred Billing. I've been doing business with Newport News for quite some time, and the charges go on my credit card on the deferred billing date, not before. They do check to see if your credit card has expired, however; also I once put in an incorrect expiration date for my card (tried to do it by memory!) and they cancelled the order because the Credit Card company wouldn't approve it. On the whole, I haven't had many problems with this company. Their prices are excellent, sales are good (you can usually find free shipping and discount codes online), and their clothing has been upgraded quite a bit (very up-to-date styles at a very reasonable price!). I've always said, however, if a deal is too good to be true, it usually is! |

| Re: NewPort News Sucks LOUSY! Customer Service. I called because I planned to order some swimsuits via deferred billing. However, when my kids did their chores - they apparently tossed my catalog. I thought - hey - I'll just order them online. Well... I get to the deferred billing and of course the code was on the catalog. I call them to get the code and explain what happened. All I get is no ma'am. .. you must have the catalog. Couldn't they just look my information up and SEE they send me their stupid catalog???? How hard woudl that have been? I've ordered numerous time before.... why so lazy? Why would something like a deferred billing code be treated as though it's top secret material? |

| They don't suck any worse than other online retailers Folks, for what it's worth, all of the things you have described about Newport News are pretty normal. I shop with several online retailers, and similar things happen with them, too. I also wondered about NN charging my credit card, so I called (angrily) to find out what was up. I found out they "ding" your card to make sure you have the money in your account (b/c if you don't now, you probably won't at the time the deferred billing comes due) and then they revoke the charges after a couple of business days. Your card never actually gets charged -- the money is held up for two or three business days. As far as the "out of stock" problem -- that seems to be par for the course; it's happened to me within the last year with Newport news, alight.com, and with Jessica London and Roaman's. The lessons I've learned are (a) if it's really important, call instead of ordering online -- the person you speak with probably has a lot more detail and ability to stave off problems than the ordering mechanism for the company; (b) if you don't get great customer service, call back and ask for a supervisor -- you'll be much more likely to get better service and the supervisors are always grateful to find out what happened; (c) keep an open mind when ordering on the Internet -- you might not get everything you thought you were getting, and cancellation notification systems don't seem to be very good anywhere. |

| I placed a couple of orders & everything went fine but my last order was not so good. I purchased a couple of items on line @ a real good price. They were clearance items but they had enough left for me to buy one of each. They sent me a confirmation & I waited about a week but didn't recieve my items or hear from them. When I went to check the status of my order, there was no mention of my items. Then I recieved an email saying they were out of stock. They weren't when I ordered them but they said that the computer didn't know that the warehouse was out. When I wrote to ask for them to be replaced, they said that they didn't have anymore @ that price. I asked for some kind of compensation for them saying they had them but then saying they were, not just out, but wouldn't be getting anymore. Remember, they sent a comfirmation saying they did have them and they would be shipping. Finally I got an email saying that they were sorry & they offered thier apologies. Great! That helps me a lot. I started to write back to them but just said 'Forget It!'. I don't have the time to mess with it anymore. I don't think they ever had those items for that low price. I think it's a lure to get you in so you will buy more. BTW, thier clothes are nice but, in my experience, the tops run small. I will not buy from them again. I'll take my chances on eBay. At least eBay makes good when things are wrong. iamathriftygirl |
