I booked a ticket for dad from Chicago to Omaha. Well as it turned out the day we had booked for his return is the day of my sister's 8th grade graduation.
So I'm thinking, "Oh it was a $110 ticket, they'll let us change it no problem."
Not so true. First, the fare for the same exact flight numbers and times ONE DAY EARLIER was about $28 more. No biggy, we can handle that.
But then we have to pay $100 to change the itinerary. So essentially we would end up paying $128 JUST TO CHANGE THE TICKET. IT COSTS MORE TO CHANGE THE TICKET THAN THE ORIGINAL TICKET WAS.
Now I can understand if they had rules about when you could change (like changes have to be made at least a week in advance or something) or charged a small fee.
But $100??
I just think that's nuts! It's not as if they are losing any money by us changing our flight day.
Oh and guess how much a non-restriction (meaning no $100 charge) ticket for the same flight and time is: $1133.50. Yep over a thousand bucks.
I don't even want to know how much this fee will go up when AA goes bankrupt.
