| You're right, the jeans do wrinkle badly, and tee shirts, underwear, dress shirts, everything wrinkles very badly, even after drying them in the dryer. Only socks escape this malady. I should try the 'wrinkle release' Downey, though. Maybe that will help. I am very disappointed in my Maytag Neptune washer because of this. You'd think they wouldn't release a machine that will be so maddening to their customers, especially for as much as they cost. I absolutely hate to iron. ******************** I, too, am furious about this problem. My new Maytag Neptune is the top-loading variety. I called the store and was referred to Maytag consumer care about wrinkles. They read from a manual that had more tips than the owner's manual. In addition to using only cool rinses, and separating clothes so that bulky jeans, etc., are never washed with permanent press items, they suggested using the Wrinkle Free Downy and even sorting the permanent press clothes so that permanent press slacks are not in with blouses, and always avoiding the maximum extract cycle. Maytag was unwilling to replace the machine and said that they would send a repairperson out, but if no mechanical problem was found, I would have to pay for the service call. Thus I called the store to complain. They sent their own repairman. He told me that the machine, of course, was mechanically working properly, and that I would need to experiment with all the settings to see which worked best to eliminate or minimize wrinkles. He demonstrated that the settings that use more water will have less wrinkles. He also instructed me to use only about a quarter cup of soap powder or to buy the low-sudsing soap. He cautioned me about the front loader, which has the mildew/mold problem. I told him that my 20-year-old Whirlpool washer worked better and I was sorry I had replaced it. When I told him about what Maytag told me regarding the service call, he said that in their Maytag training classes, Maytag tells them that they permit one free service call per new owner "for owner education." The service manual, however, indicates that the new owner will be charged for such a service call. Perhaps it is at the discretion of the repairperson? I have not asked for a Maytag service call because I will not pay for that on top of this terrible wrinkle machine. With regard to trying out these tips, I admit that the problem has improved but by no means disappeared. I still frequently have deeply ingrained wrinkles in the clothes, but in some loads, the problem isn't as apparent. With regard to Maytag's half-baked solution, I have frequently read that the chemicals in fabric softener are highly toxic, and I hate using it. Moreover, I resent having to constantly be running little loads of laundry and spending so much time organizing my laundry into these tiny separate loads. And I do hate to iron, too, and now I am having to iron lots of things I never ironed before. The whole situation is absurd and I am glad to discover a class action suit against Maytag on this board. I would like to figure out a way to protest this, so if you are in the same boat, feel free to backchannel me at [Only registered and activated users can see links. | WOW! I never knew people were having so many problems with the Neptunes until I read this thread. I bought my Neptune pair (gas dryer) in fall of 2001 and I have been pleased as punch with them ever since. I haven't had any leaking or wrinkle problems to speak of. I wonder if it depends on how much laundry one does? There are just the two of us here and I probably do five loads per week. I like the delicate cycle as I can now wash my nylons and expensive bras without resorting to handwashing. I guess I should knock on wood that we haven't had any problems with our Neptunes yet. ![]() |

Re: Maytag Washer & Dryer It would be just my luck to have mine break now that I participated in this thread. Here's a question...how would I know if mine is having the mold problem that I started to read about on the web sites regarding the class action lawsuit? Thanks! Vicki

The only good thing about my front load maytag neptune is that it is sort of gentle on my delicates, but it leaks water all the time (they promised me it wouldn't--that's why i got rid of the old one). They also promised it wouldn't move, but it does. It even started to catch on fire. They did fix that no charge, but i hate the machine now and don't trust it. Sometimes it buzzs when its done, sometimes it doesn't. In the machines defense, i did use too much soap at the begining, and that might have cuased some water leakage. But even when i don't add any soap, it still will leak a lot of water!!! Also, once i washed some red rags and then washed my husbands whute tshirts, and they came out pink. You have to wipe out with a sponge that bit of water that collects. So now i can't use bleach in the machine for fear of ruining other clothing. And the machine stinks--i geuss that water gets smelling after washing the hubbies underwear. Over all rating for machine is Yuch. I'm interested in a class action.

Re: Maytag Washer & Dryer Just a fyi. Maytag has just posted fourth quarter losses. Hmm.. Also Whirlpool has just purchased Maytag and it's family which includes Amana, Hoover, Jenn-air, Magic Chef, Dixie-Narco (vending) and Jade (cooking products). I know that I will avoid all of these. My Maytag refridgerator was purchased in 2001 and the computer replaced ($400) in 2005 (out of warrenty) and now the compressor has seized up and, you guessed it, just out of warrenty. The cost would be about $900 to fix it and I was even thinking of doing it until I started researching it. I will not purchase any of the above brands again.

Re: Maytag Washer & Dryer My husband and I purchased a Whirlpool washer and drier USED back in the beginning of 2002, so who knows how it was used before that and I don't know where to look for the year of manufacture, but we paid, I want to say either 150 or 250 for the set, and the washer started leaking water from the bottom two months ago. With five of us in the house and constantly doing laundry, I don't think that was too bad and would consider buying one again.
