Okay, this is gonna be kinda long, sorry.

I have always had nothing but good things to say about Sprint PCS, but after today, I have to say that if you can find someone better to use, do it. I am so mad at them! I called to cancel my service because my old phone broke (I got it for free on a fluke, so I didn't really care, I didn't NEED cell phone service). The man on the phone said he would give me a free phone with no activation fee or anything if I would stay with them, and I asked him over and over if I would be charged anything extra (we are military, DH works 2 jobs, can't afford any surprises on our bills). He said no, totally free. Ok, I recieved the phone, no charge on the invoice, everything was fine. I got my bill and they charged my $110!!! I called and the guy I talked to said there was nothing he could do, finally talked to a supervisor and he agreed to take the $70 for the phone off, but not the $30 activation fee.

Of course, I didn't get the guys name who gave me the free phone, (never thought something like this would happen, pretty stupid of me). So now I have to pay more money for something I didn't want or need that was supposed to be free right before Christmas. What a Happy Holiday!!! :-(

When I told the man to cancel my service, he said he would charge me the whole $110 if I did, so now I am being pushed into keeping something that I don't agree with. It is a lose-lose situation for me either way, I am still out $$ that we need for other mroe important things. Obviously Sprint PCS doesn't care about their customers too much.

BTW, the man was extremely rude, told me if I had gotten the service plan, I wouldn't have had this mess. I was planning on canceling, I didn't pay anything for the first cell phone (got a very good deal, 1/2 price with a rebate), I didn't care if I had it or not so why would I need the service plan? The only reason I decided to stay with them was because they were "nice" enough to offer me a "free" phone.

Yeah, what a bunch of bull. I will NEVER trust Sprint PCS again.

Wow, lots of lessons learned here on my part anyway, some already known and refreshed though. ALWAYS get it in writing! Always take names. And, Do Not, forget to contact the BBB and file a complaint, as well as on planet feedback, ugetheard, anywhere someone will listen! The biggest lesson I learned from this?? Return, without opening, the sprint pcs phone on it's way from amazon with my 150.00 GC, as fast as it comes!
Thanks for the info! I hope BBB can help you with resolving this!

Wow, I have Sprint PCS and they are pretty good. I needed a phone at the time, and Southwestern Bell was trying to charge me $1000 deposit while Sprint only wanted $125 deposit. Well, they were great till now with me also. My problems are minor though. For one, I moved to a different coverage area and had to change my phone number so they charged me double this month because I moved. I think that is bull, but then I get a bill that says NOT to pay it cuz it is a credit. Good thing I called them first about it. They said that what happened is they are starting the process of refunding my deposit of $125 so this month that $125 is credited to my bill then next month it will be taken off and I would owe triple!!!! (since this bill was double) Unless i pay the current charges now. Only problem is that I am afraid to cancel it yet, just in case they try to keep my deposit. lol. I sure hope you get everything worked out.
Just a suggestion. Keep the service for 1 month and let them take off the $70 for the phone and only charge you the $30 then cancel the service next month. That way you wont be charged so much at least. I know it is still charging you something you hsouldnt be but at least it isnt more. And call the BBB on them.

What I would have done in this situation is to ask to
speak to thier boss and work my way up the chain until
a 110 dollar write off is nothing compared to sanity saved.
That's usually the second level of bosses.

Or write a letter and CC the man's boss, the BBB, the president of the company, and any consumer advicates you may have in the area. Allow three days and watch how fast they move to fix the problem.

(Who loves her Sprint PCS service-- free long distance, free roaming while in the system, and 1500 minutes for 35 dollars, which beat by far everything else on the market.)

Thumbs down

Amber112 -- not only will you owe TRIPLE next month -- they will also say you are LATE!!! Same thing happened to me! I wrote to them IMMEDIATELY and told them that, since they required a deposit in the first place, they knew I was trying to repair my credit -- and this BETTER NOT be reported to the credit bureau as a lateness!! (They didn't -- but I don't know whether they WOULD have or not, otherwise.)

dkeppel -- I hope you never have to roam OFF-network (i.e., analog). If I wanted to use my phone, I had to go analog A LOT, because the service is so cra**y in my area. Not only is it a minimum of 39 cents/minute (sometimes 69 cents, and definitely NOT included in plan minutes), PLUS long distance charges if applicable! That's part of the reason I just switched to AT&T. Granted, their all-inclusive plan is double the price of Sprint's -- but then again, the phone actually WORKS when and where you NEED it! 450 USED minutes are cheaper than 120 UNused minutes!

And yes, I found their customer service to be pretty consistently rude -- not unlike their long-distance CS brethren! I'm not sure it would have accomplished anything to stay on the phone with them -- like allrightmommy said, plaster them with paper, and use sites like this to let other consumers know about their tactics.

When that AT&T phone shows up, I plan to tell Sprint where they can stick their cell phone AND their pre-paid long distance!! I'll be able to talk to my mother some time OTHER than Saturdays, and from places other than my own living room!
