My New Pet Peeve....Requiring Unnecessary CC #'s

Have any of you guys ever tried to place an order where you had to give a credit card number either before you could see your true total (w/discounts/coupons/shipping applied), or in spite of the fact that your order total was going to be $0.00! I just don't order when that happens, because I think it's suspicious. I don't think I should have to give out that CC# before I know EXACTLY what if anything is going to be charged to it.

I agree it's a pain in the rear, but I tend to think it's more of an automated process than the seller trying to charge you for items you don't want. You have to remember that most shoppers aren't going to have carts that will ring up to $0.00 and so they are simply going with the odds that you will need to pay something so they want to know how you plan to pay. Most times though, the site also has an option for paying by phone and/or mail. If I know my items will be free, I'll usually check off that one

Me, too. I don't have a credit card, but there are only a few offers that I miss out on this way. Most of them have other options you can use if your balance is zero! Some still require a credit card and I figure those are the ones that when I want to use a credit card or something and make a real purchase that won't get my business.
