Ebates...

Well, I was having problems with Ebates. I clicked on their Amazon link, and a popup came up saying that "everything is working, however because of my browser version, the Ebates banner will not be displayed. Your purchases will be recorded"

So I felt assured that my purchases would be recorded ...even if it is for a measely 2%. I made 2 purchases, waited a month, and they never posted a credit to my account. After numerous emails, they told me that since they did not receive commission for the purchases, that they cannot pass on any commission to me. After letting them know that I want my money !!! and that I would never use them again...also, I asked to correspond with someone more important than who I was emailing...I finally got the credit!

It wouldn't have been so bad if it weren't for the popup letting me know that my purchases would be recorded!!!

BUt strangely now, Ebates isn't giving rebates for Amazon... did anyone know this?

i went to ebates today to look for plane tickets at expedia. i clicked and went all the way through the banner was at the top of the page. I then went to check on some other prices and when i went back to ebates and did the same exact things i got the pop up that the banner wouldnt show because i am using explorer 6 but that i would be credited. ended up not going through ebates, the 1% i would have gotten wasnt worth the $20 i would have had to pay to have tickets mailed to me.

Yup, but I'm sure at the time of her order, Amazon was one of the merchant's listed for a 2% rebate.

nrages, you probably ordered around the time they were cutting Amazon off. So even though it was listed there at the time, they probably had no intention of honoring the rebate. just my guess

Some of the bonuses I received mysteriously disappeared from my list of credits. Luckily I save all the emails they sent me, so I had to email customer service and they finally credited me. So be wary and keep a record, I doubt it was their computer system malfunctioning.

Probably so. The customer service rep kept telling me that if they do not receive commission from a merchant, then they cannot pass on that commission to me. I was like "SO WHAT???" You know? Give me my rebates!! So, after much complaining, they came out of the pocket. If they want me to keep using them, they better had come out of the pocket!!!

I made three purchases through Ebates: Oriental Trading Co, Expedia and cvs pharmacy. Only one was creditied. I didn't save the emails so I am basically out of luck. I, too, got the pop ups that said I was being credited. OTC was only credited after I complained.

Not worth the hassle. I have to be a watchdog to get my measly few bucks.

Okay, I thought it was just me. I have only used ebates a few times, but I'm not showing any credit for my purchases. I find it a hassle to go through them anyway. I mean I already have added a step to my shopping by coming to dod to use the amazon.com link....to have to go to dod, then to ebates and then to another store is too many steps for me.

I do remember getting a 10% automatic rebate by using ebates and then ordering from the S.F. Music Box Co. That ebates deal was worth my time, but only because it was taken out of my total purchase price.

You may be missing out on Ebates credit by going through other links. Very few Ebates retailers will let you "double dip" -- that is, either DoD gets the commission on your purchase, or Ebates gets it (and passes some back to you), but not both. Similarly, some Ebates merchants won't give commission on purchases where discount coupons are used (I think JCPenney has been identified as one of those) so even if you go through Ebates to JCP, if you use a coupon on the purchase, you won't get an Ebate.

I use Ebates when I can, but I never "count" on the amount as part of the deal. If I get it, it's a nice bonus -- if I don't, and I used a coupon or etc. on the purchase, I figure that's the reason.

Of course, I keep track of purchases, and if were a "clean" purchase (no coupon codes, double dipping, etc.) then I would contact Ebates about it. So far (about 3 years IIRC), that's never happened.
