Ok I am a little confused about this and mad at the same time. If you are running your freebie web site and even list it so it shows on your posting is this allowed? I am talking about one person who I see advertise her site and uses right away the freebies we find and adds them to her site. Ok I am a little ticked off.......I am not looking for her nor do I think she should be able to link to DOD when we is and had been running her own site. I think it is a double standard! |

if I can say something, from what I know, there are tons of freebie website, other forums like this. If I found a freebie that I think is worth passing on, I will to my friends outside this circle at DoD. This person whom I don't know who it is, should be allowed to copy freebies, dealsfrom here and post where ever they feel they want. DoD doesn't own rights to those things, who is to say they found it here, I go to another large board and regularly find things posted there that are not here for a few days and vise versa. I am aware of people who post here and at another board with other screen names, who post the same things at each board. I am sure it really upsets you, have you told the other website owner? DoD should at the most alter the rules for posting own website address in the post, but without DoD I couldn't of been brave enough to advertise my website (not a freebie board) or have been able to build a few viewers. Don't let this anger you so much, just ignore that persons posts or boycott their website. Even though you may not like them posting their website here that might be helpful for another viewer, aren't we all here to find the best internet deals, freebies and to chat? |

Well, for someone to make their own website of freebies and internet deals is a great adventure. However, to rely on taking things from other sites to post on their own site as the main means of having a site says little about their character. IMHO. As for posting your website discreetly in your signature line.. I have no problem with this personally. The only time I have a problem is when someone with their own website steals my e-mail address which I USED to have posted on the boards so that those in need of help could contact me and they sign me up for their own newsletter without my permission and indicate that I had requested this be done.. now that also says little about a persons character. IMHO again. So.. websites in sig line.. cool. Stealing e-mail addys... not cool. As for taking deals and posting it on their own website.. deals are deals and are out there and there is little way to track how the deal was found.. so do what you need to do. But having your own board is tough and the liklihood that her board will make it.. well the odds are against her. So.. I see the point made by the OP and also by JVIGH and agree in part with both.

The problem with advertising another site in a signature line is that 90 percent of the sites are plum full of spam links. And usually thats all they are. If you have a freebie site with no affiliate links, why not post it? Ryan

Ok, I've given this some thought and taken input from our trusty moderators. And this is the verdict. Advertising in your sig line is NOT allowed. If you have a site that falls in the realm of "affiliate spam", it must be posted appropriately in the Affiliate Spam Central forum. If you are a legitimate merchant, you may make one post in the Meet the Merchant forum. Other sigs advertising sites are not allowed. Moderators will ask you to remove them. Thank you for your cooperation. Now go grab some deals! Mayor

Thanks for clearing this up for me Mayor. I was just upset they took my name and added it to that site and than got tons of Spam. Not to mention I was never asked in the first place. |

Thanks for the thread I enjoyed reading it . I'd say too that the sig line should be discreet and think that would be an incentive to work harder and make more post of value. To get your sig line noticed more. |
