changing subject line expired

Is there anyway to make it so the originator of a thread can change the subject line of a thread? This way it can be edited to show that a deal is dead, etc. to keep people from wasting their time to look at a thread and then to scroll down to the end to find that the deal is dead? You can change the subject when you go into edit, but it only changes, the first line of the post, not the subject that shows up in the forum list.

just a suggestion.

yes, I'd LOVE for that option to be available! It bites when you can't change the title

The moral of the story is practice perfection and you won't have to change the subject line.

No, but in all seriousness... we (Mods) can do it.. but I'm not sure if you can.. have you tried being inside a thread and from the very bottom right of the screen is EDIT? Is that option available for you? If so, that is where we change subject lines.

Let me know.

You can change the subject line if you were the one who started the thread, this being the FIRST post in a thread (Yours).. If you mess up, click the edit image within that first post. You will be able to edit the subject as well as the body text.

i think you're missing my point or i'm missing yours. as you can see the title of this thread was: changing subject line

it shows: changing subject line in the forum as the title of this thread.
it also shows: changing subject line in bold at the very top of my opening post.

now, i clicked on the edit/delete button under my opening post and in the subject field changed it to: changing subject line expired

if you go back and look at it, in the forum list of threads, it still shows it as: changing subject line
but at the top of my opening post in bold it shows: changing subject line expired.

that is the only subject that can be edited, not the one that can be seen from being inside the forums.
I hope i'm explaining this clearly enough. I see it on other forums and I think its a great feature. Just my $.02.

Correct me if I'm wrong.. I'm going on no sleep here..

The "EDIT" button at the very bottom of the screen will allow you to change your subject line (the one that shows up from the main page of that particular forum).

The "EDIT" button at the bottom of your specific post will allow you to change the subject line of your particular post.

Understand?

Am I correct?

Hope so.. but I'm not sure, Sush.

Ok, I know the subject line CAN be changed by the OP .... BUT I want to know if it can be changed so that you don't have to click on the post to SEE the change.

say I give away coupons.... I can edit my post to say, "gone" but you have to click on the post to see the new title. You can't see it from the main board.

sushi, help me out here. LOL I'm not good with explanations.

The "EDIT" button at the very bottom of the screen is an "admin" (aka moderator) function. Thats why it works for you Jeff, but when we lowly guests click on it we get the following message:

You are not logged in or you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
You are not logged in. Fill in the form at the bottom of this page and try again.
You do not have permission to access the page that you were trying to. Are you trying to edit someone else's post or trying to access administrative features? Check that you are allowed to perform this action in the Forum Rules.
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

Big grin

The Edit button at the very bottom can't be used by everybody and I agree I think it would be great!

Darkwolf, are you there?????

In the meantime, maybe you can ask the mod of that particular forum to change it for you. I know it not the perfect thing but at least until we see if Scott and do it!

If I make a mistake or the offer is expired, I just delete the thread. I had no idea you could change the subject line?

I agree this would be a very useful function. I tried to do that a couple weeks ago on a post I had originated and could find no possible way to do it. I was sure there must've been a way to do it and thought I was just being thick-headed not being able to figure it out!!

Glad to know that at least in this instance it wasn't my dumbness!

Thx for the suggestion & question sushi

I didn't even know the mods could do it.

I understood your question completely sushi,as I have been frustrated by the same thing.

At least until we can do it ourselves,I will know that I can contact a mod about it. I was reposting a brand new thread & asking to have the old one closed. This will be much easier!

great idea sushi

i too have tried that before, and know exactly what you are talking about...i have tried to edit the post and change the subject line, but it just changes in the thread itself (inside) not the one on the outside where all the members can see it before deciding to go into it

hope scott can add that feature
