Usename doesn't show up as being logged on

I know this subject was brought up before in another post, but I don't believe it was ever answered. [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] For some of us, our username never shows up on the bottom of the forums page as being logged on. Does this affect our chances of being chosen winner of the day? Has anyone who has been chosen had this problem? Just curious!

Lovemydogs, thanks for posting!

You may not show as logged into the site if you have "cookies" disabled in your internet browser. If you aren't aware, cookies identify you to particular sites you may have registered with. I don't believe having your cookies disabled will reduce your chances of winning the daily contest. You are not picked by being "logged in", rather by being registered.

If you still have a problem, let us know and we'll see what we can do for you.

my cookies are also not disabled. When I go into the forum, it always says welcome back valleygirl. I've logged out and then back in, nothing helps. It doesn't matter except I also wonder if this will keep us from being daily winner, since they have changed how they pick them now.

If you are staying logged in valleygirl, why would that reduce your chances to win?

Because it never shows that I am logged in. The name doesn't show up; therefore, does the system recognize that we are here? Not that I am Valleygirl, but that is my concern.

Also, I'm honestly not trying to be rude, but why is it that any time I have a question about why one of the site features doesn't work for me, the administration always assumes the problem is my ignorance? I know I'm not as computer savvy as you guys, but I know enough to check and see if my cookies are disabled!

I am not a site admin. I am a volunteer moderator. Nobody had responded to your question in this forum, and I was doing what I knew to help you. I do not know all the internal workings of this site, and I'm sorry that I cant read your mind and already know you are aware of cookies.

Never did I say the problem was due to your "ignorance." I do feel that I am computer saavy, and that was the first thing I wanted to ask you about.

I checked with another moderator and have found that being logged into the site will not improve your chances to win the daily contest.

Contest winners are picked from the entire member pool by a computer. The only way you cant win is if you already have.

Netwrx, I didn't say you said the problem was my ignorance. It's just that I have had problems ever since I joined, and nobody can ever explain why. I had to have my username deleted and then rejoin because half the time it wouldn't let me post. I couldn't get into the chat room forever, and still have problems with it. When this subject of the username was brought up before, we were told that we had probably checked the "invisible" mode. Every time I've had a problem, I have read all the instructions and tried all the suggestions before posting, but invaribly, someone will start giving me instructions to do something I've already done, assuming that I didn't read or follow the instructions. To me this was just another example of such when you told me that my cookies were probably disabled. I didn't mean you personally insulted my intelligence; I'm just frustrated that rather than giving me an answer or flat out saying "sorry, we don't don't why the site malfunctions and we can't be sure if this affects your chances of winning or not" everyone just seems to assume that the problem is something I'm doing wrong. I don't come here just for the chance of winning either. When I first joined in Dec., the daily winner got a $75 gc if they had posted, then it dropped to $50 and now $25, so if that was my motivation for being here, it wouldn't seem very promising. I simply don't understand why the site features do not work for some of us. I know it isn't just my computer, because I have the same problem when I access this site from work. Is is wrong to expect the features to work for me? I don't think so.

This seems to contradict Mayor's statement. I'm sure I'm not the only one who is confused!

I understand the confusion. Let me explain.

Whenever you visit site, you are cookied. Winning the daily sweepstakes has nothing to do with whether or not you post on the site, or if the forums recognize you as being logged in.

Regarding the forum logged in problem, we will be upgrading the software shortly and see if the problem is solved.
