New Popup

This hasn't happened to me at DOD in a long time. Clicked on "Forums" and was treated to a popup ad from ITT Tech. It was one of those that makes everything freeze until the ad window finally decides to appear. I assume this isn't a DOD sanctioned ad?

It actually is part of something we are trying. You will not get more than one of these a day. We are attempting to find additional ways to generate revenue to support the expenses of running this site. I know you may not like it, but I hope you will grin and bear it knowing that we continue to provide you with a free service. :-)

Thanks, Mayor. I don't really mind popups too much because they are immediately placed on my Pow! list of windows to close and are never seen again. Small popups are no problem but the larger ones like ITT Tech make me cranky... I'm unable to do anything, like scrolling or closing windows, until they load. Got so annoying at weather.com that I go elsewhere for weather info.
However, to me DOD is well worth the minor inconvenience.

It is causing me lots of problems and comes up way too often. I don't even care about this ITT stuff anyway. It slows my computer down and ever since it has been coming up i've had comp problems that have been solved by running ad aware which I have to do after coming to this site now.

As I said, I HIGHLY recommend downloading the Alexa toolbar. It will stop pop ups in their tracks. It also has some nice additional features, including a link to DoD!

Why cant u just remove this pop up I do not like to install any extra programs on my pc. What is the actual point of it. Other than being a pain for everyone who visits the site

lookn4deals, the point of having a single pop up for the site is to generate revenue. Without this revenue, the site will close as there are no dues or other ways for paying to run the site. To me, a single pop up is a minor inconvience to be able to come here without paying dues!
