| Re: WMDs and The Psychology of Fanaticism, part 2
Hey Jesk,
The President made a bunch of misleading statements on Iraq's WMD programs missile silos that were labeled chicken coops, tubing fitted for long range missiles, 15 minute strike capability, etc. Rice said about Iraq on Meet the Press "we don't want the smoking gun to be a mushroom cloud." and the Vice President said Saddam would be capable of "nuclear blackmail" soon. A recent Government report has stated that the intelligence at the time given to the White House was manipulated, exaggerated, and misused by the White House to make these and other false claims. False stories were planted by Doug Feith in in The Weekly Standard magazine, including the secret meeting in Prague between Iraqi officials and Al Qaeda, and a baggage handler in Indonesia also being a colonel in the Iraqi Army. False findings about Iraq's chemical weapons industry were placed in the NIE by a deputy National Security Director to "balance it out." The President claimed in a state of the union address that Iraq had tried to buy yellow cake from "Africa,"a statement put to bed as false by both the CIA and the Italian Government months before. The President said later it was wrong to have included it in the speech. Then the big one, Curveball. A full 10 days before the war started, the CIA and weapons inspectors found "curveball's claim to be "fabricated." We went to war anyway without the help of many European nations that questioned our intelligence evaluation methods and motivations. But, we had "freedom Fries in the Senate lunchroom, so it wasn't all bad.
So, we now have government reports saying the White house was foot loose and fancy free with the facts. We have grand jury testimony of planted news stories. We have a former government spokesperson claiming he was lied to by top administration officials in regards to an ongoing investigation. We have 1000's of missing emails. We have email addresses for the President and Vice President set up on a non White House network, but were used in the White House for strategy communications.
But you are right Jesk; there was no propaganda coming from the White House. You are right to slam "liberals" for their inability to see the whole picture on this "War on [T]error."
