Saving money on plants

If you are looking to buy plants for your garden, start checking the grocery stores late August (at least in the Northeast USA). I have gotten deals on plants that usually cost $8 to $10 and gotten them for 99 cents, a $1.50, etc.

You won't be able to enjoy them this year. But they will set down roots and come back even stronger then a new plant you put in the ground in spring.

One tip: Get a little hay. mulch, etc. and cover the newer plants. It will help them survive the Winter, although most will make it on their own.
