I have both been a participant and started one before. They are great if they are well organized (rules about what can be included, what can't, and when to discard coupons) and well participated. The problem is that someone inevitably forgets or just decides they aren't doing it anymore w/o telling anyone & the chain falls apart. The first time I did it, we all just decided that it was time to stop for a while. The second time, someone said they wanted to do it, but then just stopped sending coupons out for whatever reason...and since we don't know which person it stopped on, it never picked back up again...the coupons only made it around the chain one time in that instance - it was so disappointing!
