Yup - I tell everyone I know to be thier own health advocate. Today for instance I was told by a Dr. "if you have to go thru' Prior Authorization you may as well forget it"!!
This was for my eye treatment products & frankly I need to take care of my eyes to drive my hubby to Chemo & Radiation treatments.......etc................
I told him "just try" & had to give him the instructions I was told by a supervisor from our state insurance company.
(It will take 2-3 weeks before the authorization is approved or declined - but IT NEVER HURTS TO ASK)!
Normally if I didn't have ANY income - I'd just pay for whatever eye Dr told me I needed that wasn't covered by insurance. Now "I'm forced to ask for that state health insurance to stand by thier summary of benefits & I'm following even thier UNWRITTEN rules". |
