Converting some of those figures (using the Consumer Price Index) to see what the cost would be in today's dollars...

A three-minute call from Denver to New York City cost eleven dollars. ($237.93 today)

The average wage in the US was 22 cents per hour. ($4.76 per hour today)

The average US worker made between $200 and $400 per year. ($4,325.93 - $8,651.85 per year today)
