I really enjoyed last summer's
Rock Star: INXS, and this summer's version promises to be just as entertaining. It's different from
American Idol in that the contestants are already seasoned performers, many of whom are in the music business but seeking to make it big. Last year, they all lived together, and their off-stage interactions were chronicled as well, so it was sort of a cross between a performance show and
Real World. They also had various tasks that they had to do each week, like participating in a photo shoot or going on a press junket, so the band could see how each prospective member handled the different aspects of being in the public eye. The selection process is a mix, too; America votes, and then the bottom three are judged by the band members, who send one (and occasionally two) packing. This season, it's not an established band but a newly forming supergroup looking for a lead singer. If you enjoy rock music, you might want to give it a try! (Hey, I'm 54, and I'm diggin' it!
