That is terrible. I had a friend who worked at Hardees and they used to make her sit out in the dining room when it was slow and only punch in when customers came in. So she sat there for 8 hours and probably got paid for two. It's never happened to me. In fact, in the environments I've worked in (corporate), I always felt that people were being over-compensated for the work they actually did. By the time some of these people came in, had a snack or breakfast at their desk, called their kids, spouses, friends...chatted, took a cigarette break, a coffee break, a lunch break...wandered around to see what everyone else was doing and chat..then it was time to go home.
