Hey wifey, you said books wouldn't help and then posted a book link lol!!!!

Wouldn't layer of sugar first be ok if you dipped it in sugar, then egg white wash, then cornstarch batter. Fried veggies are often done in cornstarch. I often put more than one breading layer on foods (don't fry too mcuh now though)and it usually sticks if your oil is hot enough. Don't use egg yolk in your egg wash either - it draws fat and makes stuff greasy due to it's own fat content. Try a few ways and let us know what works.
