A new Target just opened up so I decided to check it out. I took a coupon for a, ahem, feminine product and got in line. The cashier was happy and smiling with everyone. I told hubby, "oh she's happy now, but just wait until there's a problem." Maybe I should have kept my mouth shut.

Finally it was my turn. She scanned the item, then the coupon. BEEP. It wouldn't take off the discount. Again BEEP. Nope, still not working. Then another BEEP, then another... and another. Wait, just one more for good measure. She looked at me and ATTEMPTED to hand the coupon back. I said, "Will you call a manager?" So she put on the flashing light next to the aisle number. Waiting...waiting...waiting. I felt bad for the people behind me, but I didn't like that she tried to get me to take the coupon back. No way! Then I thought, "What if it's not even the right product?" I would have been embarrassed!! She must have been thinking the same thing, because she then looked at the coupon and compared it to the product inside the bag. Yes, it was good. Why wasn't the darn coupon working?
After what felt like hours, there was still no manager. I asked, "Can't you call someone on that phone?" It was right in front of her. She said, "No. I can't use it." That's odd, but whatever. If she wanted to stand there all day, I was up for it. FINALLY a manager showed up! Well what do you know? The coupon worked after all. The cashier was not hitting enter after it beeped. She was hitting "retry" or another button. Needless to say, she was no longer smiling. She gave me my money and I noticed she didn't even say hello to the person behind me. She better get used to it, because I know I'm not the only person who uses coupons. oh and it's not so much that I had to shop there and I had to save a few cents, it was the fact that she wanted to give me back the coupon that annoyed me.
